Rattling Sound from Muffler on 1999 Nissan Sentra (Manual-5 sp)
I have been hearing a rattling noise from the exhaust pipe area on my 1999 Nissan Sentra (5 speed Manual Transmission) since yesterday. The noise seems to be more prominent when the car is on idle or on one of the lower (1st, 2nd) gears. Today, it seems more like a choking noise. I switched off the car and gently nudged the muffler/exhaust pipe and the same rattling sound could be heard.
Just curious if anyone is familiar with this issue (i.e. Does it seem like a very Critical Issue or just some loose part somewhere along the catalytic converter/exhaust pipe assembly). Any suggestions regarding possible causes ofthe fault and estimated cost for repair would be really useful. I am in San Diego, CA.
