Need help with 03 SE-R MAF

I drive an 03 SE-R on a dirt track. We are now on our third MAF in less than six months of racing! Is the MAF a common problem for these cars if so is there anyway to stop this from acting up? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you answered your own question. Try cross-referencing the different MAF P/Ns for your year - there are several that were used and some are known to be tougher than others, likely the ones with the latest production. What kind of filter are you using?

I think those are oiled filters, right? The oil could be damaging the MAF, so could the high amount of dust entering your engine (yes, it is going right through that filter - you should be more worried about that QR than the MAF).

well when they cost $200 plus for a new one and $130 for a used one thats makes you worry. Not to mention it knocks me out of the race everytime! I'll rebuild the motor I do every off season. I just want to keep it running and finish the race. Its a little embarrasing to get beat by Saturns,Neons, and Hondas.

number one thing that apprently kills mafs is vibration. if your running a cold air intake or whatever. Make sure that you stop the vibration ofn the charge side. either through wraping plastic tubing around the rim of the hole to the fender well.

I would try a different Sensor, like a Ford 4 wire with an aluminum housing. This may hold up better in adverse conditions.

We were using an OEM replacement from Advanced auto parts, but the one we have in there now came from a junk yard and it works like a champ. We also switched from a K&N Drop in to a regular FRAM and (knock on wood) we haven't had any issues what so ever.

Yeah, we've had problems before with aftermarket sensors, well aftermarket parts in general. You get what you pay for I say.

Vibration and excess oil on a K & N are the most common issues. The drop in the box will vibrate less than a cold air intake. Make sure your filter is not over done on the oil. Take off the MAF with each filter cleaning and spray thoroughly inside with MAF cleaner.
