serpentine belt....need help!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and was looking for help or a guide on how to change a serpentine belt. I was trying to avoid playing the dealer $179.00 to do it.
Any help would be appreciated!

BTW, I did a search and nothing came up.

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Sentra/2002/em.pdf

page 89 has the diagram for the belt on the 2.5, if you have the 1.8, it should still be there but on different page.

on 2.5 it is taken off the with the auto tensioner. you put a wrench on it (long handle so its easy to torque) and you 'tighten it' and when you turn it as far as you can (which is only around 1/4 turn on the tensioner overall), there are two holes that line up and you can stick something through to lock the tensioner down- i use an allen wrench.

it's all in the FSM i linked above as well, but worded different.

ouch

I was quoted 145 for both the serpent and the power belt at the dealership. Even though I know a good trusted mechanic atleast mine charges like 50 bucks on average for any of our cars. So is the 1.8 an uncommon engine for this year?

don't quote me, but i think around 80% of the sentras have the 1.8L

as far as i know, only the se-r, se-r spec v, and certain special editions have the 2.5L, i think there was a 2.0 on some as well but not sure what years...
