Spark plug/piston problems

hey guys im looking for a bit of info and advice.

Ive had my sentra for a little over a yr and havent had any major problems but all of a sudden last wk while driving it started sputtering and shutting off.

I scanned the computer and it said i had p0300 an engine misfire problem, i took it to a garage and they put in new plugs and said it was fine, drove it home and the problems started again, he checked it and said its the piston elongating and hitting the plug causing the gap to close and the problem is either: The timing chain, or that whoever owned the car before me had the head shaved.

And im not sure which to fix or if thats even the problem.
any body ever had this problem before?

I don't understand how the piston got elongated. I think you should get the cam timing checked along with the piston heads too if you thing it got elongated.
