What's missing here?? Pics P0455

Hi,

Just joined here to get some answers. P0455 code EVAP LARGE LEAK.

Went back to look at my EVAP cannister...here's what i found.

Is there supposed to be something here?? The hole is clean, no road grime, like it (whatever) fell out. Anybody know??
Car runs fine, mileage still OK, I'm puzzled. Been trying to find a similar car to look under but so far, no joy!!

no info on ur car, a lot of people here are Altima guys, and most are not prone to guessing if they don't have any first hand exp.

looks to be a vent release for gas fumes in tank. sure the reason it looks like something hooks up there is because it most likely has a service tool that checks the pressure of the valve under certain conditions. or maybe a emissions control device for other countries... clean because gas is a really good stripper/cleaner...

attached pic of mine, looks close to the same other than white piece, which might just be different year or engine model.

been while since I've looked at the EVAP system, believe it is operated of the vacuum off the engine. refer to FSM to see where all the areas are to check for leaks.

here is link to same code http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/b15...uel-issue.html

Thank you for the info...and thank you for having that FSM there. Found that link just searching. So, I looked at the FSM for 02's and it shows that as the the "water separator". It is suppossed to "vent to atmosphere", but it sure looks like there. I couldn't tell if it was an out flow or in flow and has a kind of "clip" on the end which led me to believe that there is supposed to be something there (like a check valve?). There is no pressure in OR out when running.

Eventually I fixed the whole code thing with a new dealer gas cap this morning. Erased the code and it has not come back after 50+ miles.

The cap got rid of 2 codes...now on to the P0011. I have replaced the CMPS and CKS, checked, cleaned the connectors etc. Still no return, but I know it will, and I have to get this sucker smogged (thus the urgency).

Anyway, Thanks again for the educated reply.
