vibrating, humming, thumping noise
2006 Sentra, 109,000 miles, new inner tie rod ends 3 months ago. New front tires with wheel balancing 3 months ago. Recent alignment. New brakes and rotors 15,000 miles ago.
My car sometimes has a vibrating, humming, thumping noise...... sometimes. It's definitely coming from the front end. I'll be crusin along at 65 mph with cruise on and I'll start to feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel first. Shortly after that I'll hear a very faint humming noise. Shortly after that the humming noise will increase in volume and start humming/thumping. It gets so loud I pull over and stop. I get out of the car and can't see anything obvious, so I start driving again and it goes away.
When it's making the loud humming/thumping noise it sounds like the wheels are going to fly off. But after I stop and pull off the side of the road, then start off again it doesn't seem to do it for the remainder of my 20 miles drive home.
It's done this several times before so I took it in for an alignment and they said the only thing they found wrong was there was no lock tight on the inner tie rod ends. They pulled one inner tie rod off and put lock tight on the drivers side, said the passenger side was good.
I'm a somewhat decent back yard mechanic, but diagnosing isn't my forte.
Bad front brakes?
Anybody have any idea?
