System upgrade plan - Factory Head unit remains....

2007 Altima 2.5S

I have a 2.5S w/ the "basic" head unit. At this time, replacing the HU is not an option.

Here is my plan...

- Power Kenwood KAC-8103D MONO block Amp w/ remote control KCA-WR10 Bass Knob - Having Frequency & volume control (at the amp level) will make up for a lack of head unit...for now.
- Sub - Single JL 12 W3v2 in a sealed box
- Will tap rear deck speakers for HI level input, the amp has a HI/LO converter (yes I know it won't sound as good as RCA's at line level - this is the price I pay for NOT upgrading the HU) Eventually will go with a nav unit...
- Do not plan on replacing any of the factory speakers, (other than the muddy rears, I really like the mids / hights)
- Plan on adding bass blockers to the rears (after the Hi/Low)

Questions...

- Where should I connect the trigger wire for the amp? Does anyone know the color codes for the wires on the HU?
- Is there any "Low" level I can tap directly out of the factory HU?

I'm open to your suggestions and ideas...

I DO own the sub. Do not own the amp yet...

The controls on the amp will not make up for the lack of a headunit, you won't even b able to mask it if you have a discerning ear.

The non bose system does not have low level anywhere in the system. It is solely amplified by the head unit no external amplifier therefore tapping the rear speakers is ideal because of the ease of removal. I would suggest removing the rears, and leaving them out, if you don't you will find a lack of bass coming into the cabin. I know the wiring has changed for 2007 so I'm not sure what the remote wire looks like back there anymore... previously it was a purple wire on the oem harness.

Yeah, you may want to wait until you are ready to purchase the NAV unit and do it all in one shot. But for now you can do all that you said. Be careful cranking up the bass, enough pressure can be built up in the trunk to blow your stock rears. I speak from experience hehe. For the remote trigger, I believe you can find the color codes on Car Alarm, Car Stereo, Mobile Video, and Cruise Control Info for Installers
