Space Saving Box

Anybody built, or know where I can get a space-saving box, like the Bassforms? I just can't see paying $400 for that box. Trying to revamp my car a little, and would like to free up the space and clean up the audio system.

This is the $400 bass forms, but really anything that leaves the trunk pretty open:

^ Fiberglas or wood? I've worked with both, but I don't know how to make the "mold" for the fiberglas, or how I should arrange the box from wood.

Any suggestions, DIY isn't a problem, but I don't build boxes everyday.

Nissan4LIfe had a detailed thread where he made his Cutom fiberglass enclosure for his 4th gen Altima. It will show you how to construct the 'mold' in good detail.

I remember Nismos14 had that exact box that he wrapped in gray carpet w/ his Velocity subwoofer for sale a few months ago. He listed it on eBay and it is most likely long sold by now, but I would shoot him a PM to find out for sure.

I would go the DIY glass route, it would make a fun weekend project.

^ Thanks, looks awesome. I saw nismos had it, and that he got a discount, but it's still quite expensive.

I sent him a PM, so hopefully I'll get a few answers to the things I don't quite understand. Now just gotta figure out what I want to do with it.

+1. i made one with absolutely no prior fiberglas experience. not the greatest, but not bad for first and only time making one. you can do it! $400 is ridiculous!

BOTH..... All you need is a base to mount to the vehicle (fiber glass mold of the inset area), a skeleton (speaker ring with supports to hold the sub and provide the "body" of the enclosure), and the fiber glassed cover (fleece material streched over the skelton). All you need to do next is add a little bondo to the hardened exterior, sand away, and you have an enclosure to paint, carpet, vinyl or suede.

If someone is interested in building something similar to the bassforms unit from mdf or fiberglass at a reasonable price, I'd buy one.

I've seen the bassforms 12" for 273.00 online, less that 400 but still to much. My budget is about half that.

Just to let ya'll know, I emailed Mark at supercrewsounds earlier and he said he can still get the bassform for the altima. Bassforms sold the company and not everything is back on the website because he had to reapply to be a dealer. He's going to get me a quote, though I'll probably still make my own.

I just gotta figure out what I'm gonna do with my amps. Just want them tucked out of the way, but still look clean. I don't think I wanna form them into the box anyway, so I could sell the box if need be. Plus, I don't think it'll look good. I'm thinking I might throw them under the seats, just to get them out of the way.
