Actually are you saying you want something thats accurate rather than boomy? If so a low tuned ported box or a sealed enclosure would be best.

Too much BOOM in the OP's post...I misread it. Sealed for the best overall performance and SQ

Thanx for replies guys. You got what i meant. Wanted more "KICK"

I guess i got the wrong sub to begin with lol.
Nismos, What exactly do u mean by "low tuned"?

Here's the sub i got btw. I listen to hard techno/electronic dance music for the most part so bass/kick has to be very responsive and short. What's the best thing to do in situation with this sub. Wish i could get a sealed one but money is tight right now

A low tuned ported box would be one that is tuned from around 30hz to a max, IMO of 35 hz.

A pre-fab ported box like that is typically tuned at or around 40-44hz. Not exactly great for sound quality, however the crutchfield link claim a frequency response of 26hz-200hz which if accurate, isn't bad .

There's nothing WRONG with it, i just want more of a KICK out of it then BOOM. I've noticed how great it sounds when listening to rap or drum'n'bass but lacking that kick when i play hard techno/hardstyle. I'm not talking about commercial techno they play on fm stations. Real underground rave techno requires a lot of KICK.

p.s. i really gatta start understanding and using proper language when it comes to this so i don't sound like a retard with my "kick", "boom", "booooomm.." haha

I find that sealed boxes are best when I'm listening to electronic music. The ported ones have too much of that wooffff to the end where the sealed hits a lot more accurate and dead on. I can't say shorter, but more accurate. If you have cutting tools, you should make it yourself. That way you can make it exactly to the specs according to the subs.

BTW, how are you with the light shows?

the only reason i ever listen to techno is my subs lol..

i have only ever had a sealed set-up (dual 12"s) and i have no intention of changing. its great for rock as well, classic, with the nice kick of the bass drum

Where do you have your speakers crossed over at? I ask this because I listen to some techno as well. A lot of the harder driving bass in techno is actually at a higher frequency, and above the subs. With many techno songs, my midbasses nearly take the front doors apart and the subs are not reproducing much at all. My mids are crossed at 65hz, and the subs are as well.

redesign your system to include more midbass. if you have the time patience and money look into custom door pods to mount a midbass in a sealed enclosre. your kick will be felt MUCH nicer than expecting a SUBWOOFER to reproduce the kick you are seaking. leet the sw produce the notes it is intended to produce...in a sealed enclosure for accurate reproduction.

You guys think adding 6x9s (or whatever else fits and gives out mids i'm looking for) in the rear deck would be a good idea? Currently there's nothing there since i took my stock speakers out.

YES! thank you! I have the same thing and thought there was something wrong with the way my system was tuned.
I'm not sure what my comps are crossed at but i'll take a look. I quess they are good thou since just like yours, my front doors are about to fly out when TECHNO bass kicks in on high volume.

This is the only thing that comes to mind but i'm sure u were talking about something else since what i'm thinking of does not require time/money/patience.
