rear view camera

has anyone installed a rear view camera on an altima that didn't come with the oem setup?? I'm looking to upgrade to a double din and seen some brands that come with the rear view camera, but wondering how it mounts or if I need to have a part of the body paneling drilled. Any thoughts??

I have an 09 2.5 s model

Alot of us have, I have the kenwood ccd-2000 with a dnx8120. Depending on the camera you get you will have to drill a hole that will allow the input plug to go through. That hole may be rice sized or it may be penny sized depending on the camera and plug type.

None, the hole is in a way that water wouldnt be able to get in there unless it was forced up. Been through cars washes and a pressure washer on the trunk and nothing. I have pictures posted around here somewhere.

Here check this thread for pictures of mine and others.

rear view camera

i havent compared a backup camera altima to a non back up. but check the trunk lid to see if there is that precut hole in the lift gas trim. there might be a black square cover that is in place where the oem camera would mount. u could possibly use that cover as a mounting surface or drilling to retrofit the aftermarket camera

Ive had a chance at trying two different ebay cameras:

the one that comes with a hole saw, sits flush:

360degree eyeball Reverse Backup Rear View CMD car camera Waterproof Wide Angle | eBay

and this one, you have to mount using screws/ double sided tape:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/300588831951?...ht_2431wt_1271

I actually had the 2nd one initially. then I saw members on this forum had installed the 1st one and it looked way more clean so I went for it. I was so dissapointed with the quality during the day and worse at night.

the Second one is by far a better camera. better angle, better image quality, better night vision.

so do you guys find having a rear view camera for parking really helps out when you didn't have one before in previous cars/vehicles??

it'd probably make me much better at parallel parking because I SUCK at it!!

It only helps some times and less now than before. It is only noticed for the wow factor of people who have never been in my car before. I use it when someone parks very close to me and I can't judge it from looking back.

is it possible to put a front night vision camera like in the bmws and mercedes?? Obviously it would cause a lot more accidents since people will just concentrate at looking at the screen!

Anything is possible with preplanning and money. I have been looking into a dash cam for quite some time now. I won't do it with the altima but the next car for sure.

you ever try to put it in reverse and try driving while only looking at the screen like in an empty parking lot??
