ECU Pinout Diagrams

I plan on putting together a series of ECU pinout diagrams and attaching them to this common thread. If anyone has any they'd like to share, or finds an error, please post them over here. Thanks.

'95 Altima ECU Pinout
http://www.stac-consulting.com/serra...ECU_Pinout.pdf (Rev. 0.6)

If you compare the '95 ECU Pinout with the '93-'94 ECU Pinout you will notice that the majority of the wiring color codes match one-for-one. Short of resolving the harness issue, the '93-'94 ECU will work with a '95 engine without any problems. But you will get some CELs if you do this the other way around. That's because the '95 has OBD2 related sensors that were not present in a '93-'94 engine. So you would either have to wire-in those missing sensors (rear O2, IAT, CKP) or have a workaround to fool the '95 ECU. Also, the '95 auto ECU has an OBD2 processor which communicates with the processor in the ATCU. So the ECU will know whether the ATCU is missing or when the ATCU has reported a problem.

'96 Altima ECU Pinout

http://www.stac-consulting.com/serra...ECU_Pinout.pdf (Rev. 0.5)

If you compare the '95 ECU Pinout with the '96 ECU Pinout you will notice that the majority of the wiring color codes match one-for-one. The '96 ECU was a transition year for the ECU, so to speak. In other words, the '96 ECU implemented wiring similar to that from the '95 ECU, but also added a few additional changes that would become standard for future ECUs. So there are a number of permutations you need to follow between these different years.

● You can take any '95 ECU and directly plug it into a '96 non-California Altima. And vice versa, you can take any '96 non-California ECU and directly plug it into a '95 Altima. This is true as long as you use the same transmission type.

● I'm going to outline how you can take any '96 California ECU and directly plug it into any '95 Altima. Same transmission precaution applies, as mentioned above.

1. Remove the cover from the '96 California ECU and solder a jumper between the following pins on the backplane connector.
a. Pins 28 <-> Pin 63 (This is the IAT).
b. Pins 108 <-> Pin 110 (This is the Rear O2).

Note: If you ever get a constantly reoccurring front O2 sensor CEL then replace it with a heated front O2 sensor. Make sure that the power for the sensor's heater is always provided when the ignition switch is set to either ON or START.

● I'm going to outline how you can take any '95 ECU and directly plug it into any '96 California Altima. Same transmission precaution applies, as mentioned above.

1. Remove the cover from the '95 ECU and solder a jumper between the following pins on the backplane connector.
a. Pins 28 <-> Pin 63 (This is the IAT).
b. Pins 108 <-> Pin 110 (This is the Rear O2).

If you ever need to go "two layers" up or down, ie. 94 ECU <-> 96 then carefully read the previous post related to the '95 ECU. As a general rule of thumb, it is typically easier to accommodate an older ECU into a newer engine, then the other way around. The reason being that the newer ECUs have tougher requirements while the older ECUs does not.

'97 Altima ECU Pinout

http://www.stac-consulting.com/serra...ECU_Pinout.pdf (Rev. 0.3)

If you compare the '96 ECU Pinout with the '97 ECU Pinout you will notice that the majority of the wiring color codes match one-for-one. The '97 ECU has one wiring standard to support both the California and Federal ECUs .

● You can take a '97 ECU and directly plug it into a '96 California Altima...and vice-versa.

● You can take a '97 ECU and directly plug it into a '96 Federal Altima. But you have to also,

1. Remove the cover from the '97 ECU and solder a jumper between the following pins on the backplane connector.
a. Pins 28 <-> Pin 63 (This is the IAT).
b. Pins 108 <-> Pin 110 (This is the Rear O2).
c. Install a four-wire front O2 sensor. This sensor has switched power, the body housing grounded, a heater wire ran up to pin 115 of the ECU, and a connection to the front O2 sensor signal wire.

● You can take a '96 Federal ECU and plug it directly into a 97 Altima with the following changes needed,

1. Remove the cover from the '96 Federal ECU and solder a jumper between the following pins on the backplane connector.
a. Pins 28 <-> Pin 63 (This is the IAT).
b. Pins 108 <-> Pin 110 (This is the Rear O2).
c. Note: You do not have to do anything with the front O2 sensor with this configuration.

They're not the same. Even the '00 and '01 has some minor differences between them.

What exactly have you done to figure out all the pins? I know that my service manual only lists some of the pins off the ECU, not all of them. How did you figure out all of them? I'd like to know how to do it for my Alti. I have an 03'

The ECU pinouts would be listed in the Nissan's factory service manual.

I have it.. And I know the knock signal for me is pin 82, and the RPM is 36... but it's like the listing skips some important pins in mine. PM sent.

Don't quote me on it, but I think you're missing a few.

Shouldn't the FSM have a complete list?

EDIT:

Jserrano beat me to it.

EDIT x2:

Any chance of getting that in list form for the schematic reading impaired?
