00-01 swaps are easy. i can almost do it in the dark now.

what do you mean ring gear? auto's have ring gears, manuals have flywheels.
the 2 are not interchangeable. i think its just a terminology mistake though.
good job on the swap. i could have told you everything you needed to swap - but you didnt ask...

Just an update: I found the culprit. It turns out my waterpump was leaking badly, it just kept draining out the coolant until eventually there was no more, engine overheated and seiezed the bearings. How did i find out? i used a water system pressure tester, basically pump the system with 24psi then i saw the water pump leaking on my new engine so i decided to put on the water pump from my old engine, well it turns out that pump was even worse, totally gone seals, in case you guys dont know how to check if your water pump is leaking, it's really easy all you need is a flashligght to look at it, look for corroded fluid coming out of the water pump holes , just a heads up.

Good job....I also used Chinabean's BASIC tutorial and then realized that I was better off swapping everything over that I could (after a heavy degreasing). However, I did ask Asleep for pointers...

Only problem I've had is that according to the crank pulley (left the 2000 pulley on and did you notice the timing index pointer is on one side of the cover instead of the center?) my timing marks are about 3 inches to the right of the pointer. Can't get them even close.

The cars runs very good and I also noticed better low end pull due to the cams. So far with about 70% city and 30% hwy mileage on my first full tank with the new engine, I'm getting about 28-29mpg

Only thing I can really guess is that somehow the crank pulley didn't get locked in properly by the 'notch key' and must have rotated a little clockwise while tightening w/the impact. All theory, and unless the crank seal goes bad soon, I'm leaving everything alone as long as it runs good...

Oh, congrats!

BTW, Asleep, not only did I do half of my swap in the dark, but with mosquitoes the size of dragonflies...Not sure how many pints of blood I lost....

You are absolutely right! I can't believe i didn't notice that, just yesterday i was trying to set up timing, i set it at 20degrees and the car ran like absolute crap, then i had to set it by the seat of the pants and when i checked it turns out it was running a suposed 30 degrees but yeah it's because the timing marks are at different locations! By the way i'm also getting soide 28-29mpg city 34-37 mpg highway also. Hmm i'll figure out what to do about this and let you guys know.

Well figuring I didn't have any leftover parts AND the car cranked up on the first try (other than the rings having settled or whatever), it only makes sense that SOMETHING should be amiss....

I'm half afraid to pull the crank pulley to check my suspicion..last time I swapped pullies on the old motor, the little metal 'key' would not stay in place and oil started dumping out after I had installed the pulley and backed out of the driveway. It had made a nice little jagged groove where it spun around crooked inside the crank snout...

I am NOT pulling another KA, not at least until I decide to upgrade the bottom end (very doubtful)....
