98 Nissan Altima stalling
About 3 months ago, I allowed my car to run totally out of oil! When I heard the clattering, I immediately killed the engine and did not run it again until I added oil. Since that time, my car has begun stalling during stop and go traffic. It immediately restarts, and runs great. The car has 115,000 miles, and has had regular oil and air filter changes. It has been 3 years since spark plug replacement. Any suggestions as to what is wrong?

Could be the distributor. But check for codes first, just in case.

iacv.. battery even.. check for codes like he said and just every general maintenance thing you can do. i cant believe you ran it dry long enough to clatter.. thats good for the valve train + bearings..

Accually you could have Worn some hoses and caused a vacume leak.
Vacume leaks are known to stall your car. Also running the engine hot - Enough to hear the clatter is bad. im sure that engine was hot and rough.
if you can get it diagnosed at a advancedauto or Aurozone and run the codes through the haynes book. And most of the time the codes dont match up like their labled in the haynes book. If im correct the Haynes Code for a vaccume leak for a 98 altima would be in this list of codes. Now these are for a 2000 Altima. Knowing that the engines and Chasi are the same on our cars than this should help.

I have a vacume leak right now and im looking into my Intake manafold. Im in the process of using brake fluid this week to find the Leak. Wish me luck. And i wish you luck.
Now my car used to do that also thats why im thinkign it could be a vacume leak. Now after i replaiced my Fuel pump my car did stall anymore.
