Nice work. Can't wait to see the dyno numbers.

What tools/equipment did you use to make that diamond plate cover. I'm assuming you polished it with a dremel attachment, but what did you use to cut the overall shape?

I've got a basic set of tools, enough to do most automotive jobs. I've even got a dremel I'm wondering what most people use for doing fab work like that.

Very nice work bro. Ill be watching the racing stories forum now. After doing the entire Intake Manifold, are u planning to tune it to see if you can get a bit more out of this mod or do u have other mods that u wanna finish up first.

I used a Sawzall to cut out the rough shape. Then I used Dremel with a Fiberglass Reinforced Cutting Wheel to trim it down even further, then used a 120grit flapwheel to smooth it out, and finally polished it with a polishing wheel.

Tuning is scheduled for next Monday at XAT Racing in Tampa. $200 for two maps (One, for NA... One, for Nitrous). I will have to sit on what I got done to it for now. Maybe in a year or two I plan on pulling the engine and going with performance internals. Next year I will start to buy the parts.. Eagle Rods, JE Pistons w/Chrome Moly Rings, valves, etc... was gonna buy them this year, but wifey wanted some new funbags!! lol....told her I'd rather play with some pistons at night and she got pissed!

Anyway... now I gotta figure out what I did to the EVAP Solenoid... I'm getting a p1488 and a p0455, which says that my EVAP Canister Solenoid Valve is Open or the system detects a leak. Think it might have something to do with me missing a couple hoses during the reinstall and lost about a half gallon of coolant before I figured out what I missed. Cleared the codes and see if they will come back, if they do... have to drop the rear end to get to it..... FUN!!! Thanks guys for the compliments...

^^^hey bro, about your evap and codes. I keeped my whole vacumm and power valve set up, all i did was remove the metal flap inside the manifold, and i do feel a difference. Try putting yours back on and removing that flap and see what happens, it should get rid of the codes for ya.

Yeah, as far as the power valve, we just removed the metal flap, vqaltima took it a step further and removed the cross mount that the flap was attached to.

Yeah.... probably gonna do that this weekend... not that it takes long, but by the time I get home from work I don't feel like doing shit! I'm hoping my codes were just either from me not hooking up the vacuum lines the first few times I tried to start my car and/or air getting in the fuel lines when I had the rail off for two weeks!?! Cleared them and I'll see if they come back. Any of you guys think that would have triggered it? Can't see the Solenoid Valve going bad under the rear suspension all of a sudden, but then again... that's my luck!

if you ever have moment hook your stock metal thingy that holds the power valve back up, take the power valve out, hook the vacuum line back up, and see if you feel any difference. It should only take about 5 mins to swap em. also see if your light goes off with that also

Well I finally got the chance today to take the butterfly out, and let me tell you that you can REALLY feel those extra ponies after 4k RPM...

Glad I did this mod. Also while I had that side piece off, I noticed all the oil that was inside my IM. I was sad to put the thing back together looking like that. I'll be making an oil catch can this week, and I'm going to be looking for a used IM at the junkyards around here.

I plan on gutting it, and maybe dipping it in chrome for a nice look... who knows. If I could find a whole 3.5 engine for cheap enough, I might just start a summer project and start building that thing from the inside out...

We'll see what happens. Just wanted to give an update with this mod...

EDIT:

Forgot I snapped a few pics of just how nasty it looks in there...

yeah.. it's amazing with this little DIY mod will do.... mine really kicks in about 3500rpm... the car just screams. Funny that you mentioned your ideas for a summer project... wanna see what I was doing all weekend?....

2004 Maxima VQ35DE / Automatic Tranny...

The car the engine came out was in a wreck... knew there was going to be problems when I couldn't spin the crank all the way. We had to flip the engine over and take it apart "upside down".. removing the lower block and removing the crank.. finally able to spin and get the damn Torque Converter and drive plate off. My buddy Patrick here rippin that VQ to shreads...

I took a break from it as I am in the process of taking the heads.. got it on the stand now for my new little hobby. Still thinkin about what I'm gonna put in it... right now Arias Pistons, Eagle Rods, ARP bolts, and JWT cams are in my head... possibly might get it sleeved.. but I don't plan on pushing over 550hp.. with a turbo... biggest project is going to hook up all the plumbing for the LSD 6spd. I'll busy and broke all summer!

Nice work Hack and Mike!

It has been taking me awhile to get the shelf cut out and the runners ported/polished. Jime and Mike were so right! It takes a lot of cutting/sanding/grinding to get that stubborn shelf out! It will be well worth it though!

Here are a couple update pix. I am about half done so far.

Shelf thus far:

Notice the runners. I have been through three 120 grit flap wheels so far, and about five more to go! Next up is Mike's drywall sponge invention for the remainder of the runners and then the polishing will begin.
