Question

I called my dealer and he referred to the part as the throttle body gasket. Isn't that different from the VIAS gasket?

Yes, they are different--the dealer should know that the VIAS (aka Power Valve) is not the throttle body. If he looks at the Intake Manifold Removal and Installation diagram in the manual for '02-'04 (I'm looking in the '03), it clearly shows the gasket, on the opposite side of the engine from the throttle body. Unfortunately, the manual does not give part numbers.

like duaner said , the VIAS aka power valve is on the opposite side of the intake manifold from the throttle body .

you can just put a thin bead of silicone around the perimeter , about an 1/8 inch from the edge , let it set up for a few minutes and then install the plate .

I decided to play it safe and pick up a gasket. Thanks for the terminology. They had no clue what "VIAS" was (even when I spelled it out: "Variable Induction Air Control System" Actuator Assembly). When I said "power valve", they knew right away. I had to order it so I won't installing until next week. For others looking to purchase the gasket, the part number is 14033-8J120 and the price is $10. Thanks again.

Also, here are just a couple of the most FAQs:

----------------------------------------------

Q: What does the VIAS/SSIM Block Plate do?

A: This is strictly a block plate kit for those that want to remove their VIAS (Variable Induction Air Control System). This will hurt low end power, but since you are removing an obstruction, it will help top end.

The other use for this block plate and considered the best option as far as performance is known as the SSIM (Secret Sauce Intake Manifold). That name was created years ago by a member of the Maxima discussion forums. This involves cutting the shelf out of the main chamber of the upper intake manifold and removing the VIAS assembly. This will still lose a little low end power, but the gains in the top end are very noticeable. It's definitely a modification that is worthwhile.

Q: What is the difference between the two VIAS Block Plates that are offered?

A: One kit comes with a block plate that is fully machined out of a solid piece of 6061 billet aluminum with the NWP logo in raised lettering. The plate is fully machined on all sides and the front and back. Then it is tumbled and polished by hand. The tolerances and quality do not get any better than this.

The Basic VIAS Block Plate Kit (sells for $40.00) comes with a plate that is machined from a 1/4" sheet of 6061 billet aluminum and the logo is engraved instead of raised. So it is not machined on the front and back to give it a perfect surface. But, the surface tolerance is plenty flat enough for it to seal on the manifold with a gasket. It is then tumbled and cleaned by hand.

Here is a comparison:

Raised logo and fully machined with no machining lines for $48.95:

Wow! Great price there Aaron. The raised logo is definitely worth it. Looks great!

Thumbs up Nice Little Mod

I installed the block plate last Saturday. Overall, power feels the same. Loss of low end torque is completely unnoticeable. First run was merging onto the highway in 3rd from 3000 RPMs. Upper RPM range felt stronger. There was no strain and a consistent pull from 5000 to redline. Yesterday, I punched it in 2nd from 3000. Holy SH!#. Maybe it was just the "butt dyno effect", but 2nd gear felt significantly stronger through the entire range. I can't wait to install the Racing Line Y Pipe in the Fall. Enjoy the three day weekend!

Nice to hear, I already got the Racingline Y pipe installed and love it, just ordered the block plate and Taz has the Vibrant cat-back on sale. I'm inches away from getting the cat-back now. Just holding back thinking about the noise levels in the car (got 2 kids). Let you know what happens.

I would get the Vibrant if I had the money; that is a great price at Racingline.

I am in the same boat with a kid. The Stillen cat-back seems nice and understated.
