The expected ship date in the confirmation email you received is still correct. The first reason for the backorder date set to the 7th is because we ran out of bolts, which also effects the $60 plates. The 2nd time the backorder date was pushed back was because we ran out of actual $28 block plates, which should be back in stock by the 18th.

ARG! I hate waiting. Oh well, from what Ive read its well worth it.
I apologize. Due to the high demand of this new product, they sold out much faster than we originally anticipated. We are making another production batch as we speak, twice the size as before, in hopes to be able to keep them in stock on a regular basis.
But I completely understand. When I order something online, I want it NOW! I try my best to use that mentality when receiving new orders. In most cases, people receive their package within 3 or 4 days after placing their order, which is unheard of. Usually, it takes 2-3 days to process your order, then another 3-7 days for it to be shipped via ground.
We ship all orders via USPS 2-3 day Priority Mail. It's very reliable and the mail keeps moving even on Sundays. In one case, a customer placed his order Friday afternoon and it arrived early Monday morning on the opposite side of the country! Beat that!
Ye shippin seems quick wit u guys. Read several times on here someone commenting on it. N e sales going on in the near future with the spacers? I took ur advice n read over the installation. Doesn't seem hard at all
i searched a bit but didnt find anything too FAQ-like for this, so
newb questions inc
what exactly does the butterfly valve that you remove do?
edit: when i took the plate off and looked inside, i realized what it does... it controls the amount of air that flows between the top and bottom of the manifold... but what is the point of this? the intake inlet splits into 2 and should deliver the same amount of air to both the top and bottom sections... why are they even split in the first place? and why would one section get more air than the other and require something to regulate that?
is this valve the entire VIAS system?
why would Nissan put this system in if it only hurts power?
how does this effect gas mileage?
and biggest n00b question.....by the name this sounds similar to VTEC, which everything ive ever seen makes it sound like the greatest thing ever... why would you want to get rid of it?
I guess there is no one in this forum with such knowledge. It is a shame too because you have good questions!
Not too sure but ill try answering. The valve just regulates how much airflow goes through the manifolds. Everyone on here who has em already says it hasn't effected their gas mileage at all including the designer at nwp. Only reasons I would think the removal would be is because it guts it n free's up much more airflow n if u elimate it so that it no longer kicks in at like 5,500 rpms so that it is always "wide open" so there is that constant power all the time. N the reason why nissan prob put it in is to detune it lol jp idk
From what I've read a while ago... there's always a compromise with most things... with regards to the intake track you would want it to be shorter and slightly smaller in diameter at lower RPMs to give you more horsepower. This is achieved by smaller opening for faster air flow and shorter track that is tuned to that RPM. But as the RPMs increase the engine needs more air to get more out of it. The larger track allows more airflow and the added length is also better tuned to higher RPM. In the case of the Altimas VIS (Variable Intake System) it tries to get the best of both worlds. When the valve is closed, the configuration is for low RPM and at higher RPMs the valve opens up airflow through the second intake track allowing more air. The only thing is that the valve isn't designed that great. It is restricting the airflow a little thereby not letting the VQ get as much air as it could without the valve assembly. By removing the valve and replacing it with the block plate, you have effectively made the intake track more efficient and larger. But at the same time you have removed the low RPM advantage that the VIS provided... hence, some loss in power at the low RPM range.
Hope that helps...though may be a little long winded. :P

Thanks for the response. Do you really think Nissan went to all that trouble to rob power from this engine?
I have heard stranger in my life but if this is true,.. weird.
i installed the plate 3 days ago and i feel a difference in the higher rpm , the car feels better from 5000-6600 rpm , originally the car would start to lose steam after 5000-5500 rpm now my car pulls up to 6600 and i now shift at 6600 instead of 5700-6000 . i need to get to the track after the summer to see if i could run better times , especially the fact that i end the 1/4 mile in the top of third gear (i have a 5-speed auto) so this should help my trap speed , i can't wait for the temp to drop a little .

They are not trying to rob power...they are trying to make the engine good down low and up high...but its a hard thing to do....Its not like they are detuning it...that VIS is the best they could come up with to do what they needed.
And to ppl waiting to order...imo i would just order so you get its asap...cause its better to be on the waiting list than just waiting for the list to clear.
I have both the plate and the intake manifold spacers sitting in my room for a while now.. i will shoot sum vids of before and after and post them on here.. i will prob be intalling both of them early next week..

Hey Aaron92SE, let us know when exactly the plates will be available again. Im interested in getting one, thanks!
Why not just order it now and that way you'll be one of the first on the waiting list when they become available?
Either way it looks like he'll have them back in stock on the 18th and ready to ship. So just pay for it now and he'll ship it as soon as they come in on the 18th.
