Need Help.. Anyone use Megan Racing Headers/ypipe? 3.5
Has anyone used the megan racing headers and y pipe?? Megan Racing
Frankly they look awesome.. But a friend of mine said because of the lack of back pressure from the larger pipes I would loose a huge amount of low end power... I thought he was retarded, any truth to what he said?
Also I live in CO and there are no emissions checks
I believe that it is true that with the wider the tubing you can use HP because there itsn't as much pressure building up for the engine to the exhaust. But don't quote me on it.
not sure if you went with other options, but wife has these on her car..it does throw p1274 1283 codes, but her car is useless for three gears with anything more then half throttle..too much wheelspin..lol and torque steer. hers have held up great since they have been on for the previous two owners dating to 2006ish? We are currently pulling them off next week for RL precats and y-pipe in order to pass emissions here in WI. FYI..her car is loud! with this set-up and a greddy full stainless catback. It actually sounds almost like a locals old school Ferrari that runs around sometimes at Road America.

OP, jturkey is correct with his description of what to expect...The parts you listed are correctly sized for an otherwise stock VQ35DE engine. Now with this said, it is possible to go to big and actually loose hp, however this happens when piping is not correctly sized for the amount of output from the engine. I use a similar set up however the piping is larger than even what you are looking at because my engine is not stock, and the exhaust became the major "bottleneck". You will be quite pleased with the performance increase with these. I would strongly suggest a tune, which would allow you to take full advantage of these in a way that an otherwise untuned engine would be capable of. For comparison, this is my set up.....

Back pressure bs people tell you is a myth. Scavenging of the exhaust is where the real power is made or lost, not backpressure. Yes, like Lawrence said, it is possible to loose hp with too big of an exhaust, but you wont see that happen with those headers/exhaust.

You need a resonator lol! Thats weird you have emissions up there, i dont here in Madison. There's probably a way around it for you, did you ever get an Uprev tune and turn the codes off?

4dzc..I really like the look of your y-pipe setup..kinda reminds me of tri-y header system for building torque.
05sickser...Thats wild you guys dont have emissions...in the dam capital..lol. All along the lake Michigan border up to Sheboygan we have emissions. I was very close to getting an Uprev tune for her car, but there might have been a possibility of the o2 sensors showing a "not ready" signal forever, and with that, her car would not pass...so we bought a used set of RL precats from Bombay (excellent seller) and ordered a new RL ypipe. At least with that she will pass no question, and later this summer after the Cutlass is done, we can go ahead an get the Uprev tune done with headers back on
And yes..a 20"+ resonator (midpipe style) would do wonders for taking away the rasp, and make it more mellow.
JT: Do you have or have you ordered the HFPC's yet?
I have them here slightly used from a member here(bombay) wife bought them and he shipped them asap.we ordered the RL y-pipe new, and will be here Monday. By Wednesday I should have the new system in,and Thursday passing emissions..hopefully..lol. I will also update as to the sound decibel difference.
Maybe I will try to take a before and after vid of the sound change?
