i think changing the elbow to a smoother pipe is a good idea. you are gonna have to measure the throttle body outside diameter and the outside diameter of the rear of the MAF sensor housing. compare them to the 3" elbow, you might need two different sized reducer couplers.

opening the other side of the intake plenum to have two openings would be good too. i have to return my car back stock (its a lease) and i wanted a more direct airflow to the filter thats why i bought the duct for the VQ. i did some internal mods to it too btw for a smoother/better flow.

i wouldnt however open it where you indicated. id open it at that flat forward facing piece that goes into the radiator support. if you bend down and look you will see right
thru it into the car. thats how the air gets into the car for the VQ setup

yeah that lower yellow arrow on the bottom right.. air will fill up that chamber and flow left into the original duct work. unless you can make an opening all the way into the area you have in red

yup. that is the idea in the process. once the read area is opened the flow will be as drawn. i might have to seal or create a left wall on the right vent opening.

as for the throttle i was offered an VQ throttle, but im investigating if it uses the same one or a better one.

as for the manifold, thanks to nssan i had to opt for a top speed header. the original blew on the cat weld and made a one inch hole. the new held held up (started to tear) to when the headers came. and the oiginal cost $589... thanks nssan.
