Stock tires: 195/65/15
New tires: 205/40/17

When your speedometer indicates 55 MPH / KM/H, you would actually be travelling 51.65 MPH or KM/H.

cool find alex

haha great find man i was always curious about whether my speeding was justified since i have 17s hehe. well the verdict is in its only showing a mile more on speedo than my real speed. I was hoping it would be like 5!!!

i dont think so...i think youre supposed to get your speedo adjusted. i think it is illegal to drive with a speedo that doesnt work, so prob one that doesnt work right is illegal as well. unless you say you had just gotten the rims on and you were on your way to the speedo adjustment place

if it's the link to the miata tire calculator, yeah, it already does the speedo conversion for you.
Unless you're trying to get rid of the tire gap between the tire and the fender by using larger diameter tires, you shouldn't have much problems with your speedo. Besides, I bet the speedo isn't all that accurate anyways (it's precise, but not accurate). The inflation psi and temp of tires probably matter too, so who cares?!
Sorry...i'm kinda venting...got a speeding ticket in my 85 Volvo.

you could always say you didn't know you had to have your speedo calibrated when you change your wheel tire combo.
