well i've been here for about 2 1/2 years watching car after car get a turbo kit, and decided to join the club. i realize that this will cost $4k+ and i am willing to invest that and countless hours of research.
my goal: highly responsive street car - 250-275whp on stock internals
my plan: gt28rs at 10psi with custom log manifold (jgs) on JWT tune
i currently have 2 altimas: 95 5 speed rust bucket (winter beater) and 97 auto (receiver of turbo kit, and 5 speed from the 95). i plan on doing the 5 speed swap (among other things such as rear disk conversion and suspension mods) between now and the spring/early summer. by the time that is all finished, i hope to have acquired all the parts i need for the turbo.
i'll be using this thread much like a lot of others have; to post my status and the parts that i've bought, and also to ask any questions i may have and get suggestions. but dont worry, i'll search first.
thanks in advance to anyone who reads this and helps me out through this process.
including upgraded parts for my 5 speed swap, here's what i have so far: updated 4/21/08 damn this list is starting to get pretty long!

Make sure you get new O-rings. And as for retainer clips, the only clips that I know of are for the electrical system and the clips that you were referencing to don't look familiar.

i was just about to post that question here
according to the installation instructions from JWT for their fuel rail:
Quote:
5. Install the supplied limiter clip on each injector inlet below the O-ring to limit the depth that the injector inserts into the fuel rail.
do you suppose this is what they are referring to?
I didn't bother. I got extra 0 rings so I put those extra O rings on and they create the buffer.
It's not like the injector is going to pop out, like the JWT instructions said, it is only a concern if your fuel rail allows the neck if the injector to move all the way into the rail. I don't have that issue.

right, though it is possible for the injector to go farther into the rail than where those limiter clips would stop it. dont you see the spot on the injector where it would clip on? not saying that your approach with the extra o-rings wont fix it though... if you can stretch them far enough to fit over it
for the gt28rs, is the .64 a/r turbine too small for the ka? from what i gather, gt28rs .86 a/r = gt2871r .64 a/r with respect to spool. so, the .64 a/r on the gt28rs would naturally spool faster.
like i said, i am looking for the best response, but my research is making me think: it seems like the gt28rs .64 a/r will give me trouble keeping the wheels planted, and will fall on its face even sooner than the .86 a/r. is the extra response from the .64 a/r worth it? any other thoughts?
bare with me here, im new to the game but am doing research and trying to make sure my questions are intelligent

Same turbo I have man and the response is spectacular. I enjoy it greatly... check out my pic thread and you will see the turbo you are referring to. DONT EBAY YOUR TURBO !!!!!!!!!! i did it trying to be cheap and it blew the minute i turned the car on and drive it 20 feet. Make sure you just dont cheap out on your build and have a reliable builder. There are plenty of guys on here that are knowledgeable of these cars and turbo kits and will really help you in a crazy time of need... I know
THANKS TO ALL THE FORCED INDUCTION GUYS (yall know who you are)
Just dont cheap out man i cant say that enough... And on stock internals i wouldnt push 10psi unless you plan on blowing that engine... I had to change my internals and low compression that ho so i knew i would ride for a while. But goodluck man and pm me or asleep or ace or nismochop or vaser and others and im sure they will be happy to assist you... GOOD LUCK... and enjoy this endless money pit

believe me im not cheaping out. like i said in the first post of this thread, i am well aware that this will cost $4k+ and am prepared to spend that. now, i have no problem buying parts used/from ebay if they are good, genuine parts (i.e. the msd 50 lb's i picked up super cheap).

Ace and Peterson both ran 10-12 psi on stock internals with no problems. The conservative JWT tune helps a lot in that respect. But either way, I have 2 altimas right now so after I do the auto->manual swap in my 97 i'll have an extra engine if anything goes seriously wrong.
okay nvm i found a pic of the s15 turbo on courtesyparts.com and it shows a .64 a/r turbine. have you been to the dyno? i'd like to see how it spools with that small turbine...
