kat-u13-awd

Just starting the thread here now.

I'll post when I have more information.

So far the plan is:

Step one:
Fuel cell relocation to the trunk like 98altimatic.

Step two:
S14 or S13 rear subframe pending on purchase and availability. I will need to confirm dimensions with some of my 240sx buddies. This task I must admit might be too big for me to do myself unlike the rest of the car has been, so i might bring it to a shop.

Step 3:
Finish tearing down and build up the slave ka that I have.

Step 4:
Installation... which will probably have step 5 and onward in it.. There may be a possibility that the front subframe needs to be notched, or, that the engine has to sit in a lower position. A new exhaust system needs to be fabricated and I'll have to figure something out with the abs system.. I'd like to retain it but I have yet to look into the sensors.. and of course then the Ebrake system. Might have to go hydraulic E brake. custom driveshaft.

ETA:uncertain. I'm taking my sweet time with this one, just like I did with the car.

For now, I'm starting to tear down the slave block that I have.

The awd transfer case will be from the nissan axxess w/ ka24e SOHC awd.
I'm trying to find the fsm for it right now.. most locations are in the states and won't ship up the book/cd to canada.

Without that information, I've been left with gathering pictures of both the KA24e as well as the ka24de for picture comparisons, to see if the transfer case might bolt up to the dohc.

so far i've sourced an axxess transfer case over in the east coast of canada with 170,000km on it.

Until i've looked into the finding, purchasing, and reading the fsm, i won't know if this is possible.

Wow, thats the same idea that I had before I decided to get a whole Bluebird, I had planned to get a Bluebird rear subframe but that turned out to be immposible to get cheap and using an s13/s14 subframe was out of the question for me because of the differences in the suspension.. I know some one that has the a rear pulsar gti-r subframe with is very close to the Bluebird subframe..I even bought an Axxess fsm from ebay..

do you still have the axxess fsm ?

I need to get measurements of the s13/s14 subframe. Used ones are readily available. Removing the oem fuel tank will provide space for the diff. I was comparing images and the subframe looks very similar to what we have now. It is the toe arm, upper and lower control arm mounts which are different. The major difference that I can recall off the top of my head between the s13/s14 rear subframe and the bluebird/gti-r subframe is that the bluebird/gti-r/axxess subframe is boxed and supports the rear diff from the front and back, where as the s13/s14 subframe bolts onto the center/rear of the diff.

One major thing is getting the transfer case cryo'd as well, so that it can handle power. Like I said, I have no information on the axxess right now and anything would help.
Another for sure thing is that I'll have to make custom shifter linkages to go around the drive shaft.. I don't think there is room at all for the 2 straight pieces and from what I've seen from the sr20det awd setup, the shifter linkage wraps around the driveshaft.

good luck... i was actually going to use a dsm for the swap, but decided to hold off on it till next year. BTW, i suggest you get a plasma cutter...best investement i made...anyways, you will need to basicly cut the back out of the car to make a s13/14 subframe fit. the diff sits where the gas tank is, and basicly the front mounts of the subframe will sit where the driver/pass seatbelts are. also keep inmind that you have to line up the diff / driveshaft , etc so you get a decent angle.. a s13 rear is almost half an inch shorter than the s14... im running a z32tt rear in my 280z ... which is identical to the r32 rear...so you might want to consider a skyline/z32 subframe since its stronger.

So I ordered the fsm off of ebay, hopefully the seller is willing to ship it up to canada... it says canada so...

Been talking with my 240 buddies the swap. We were talking about major costs and I think this swap is going to cost about.. 5 grand in parts. Crappy rear subframe's are easy to find but I guess I'm looking for one in decent condition??? good luck me...

Hey Drunk,

I'm not sure if you meant that you cannot access the Prairie in Nissan FAST. There is indeed a FAST file with the Prairie dating '83-'94. I have a nissanfast.iso file with it. You will have to mount this .iso file with a virtual CDROM driver and you'll have access to about 56 other older Nissan models (mostly foreign).

Let me know if you need this file and I'll put it up somewhere for you. Its a big file, about 500MB.

If you can split the file into 2 or 3 files, you can put it up on rapidshare.com for him, max file size allowed it said was 200mb and it allows file splitting. There are free programs, let me know if you need any.
