Fwd Ka Ati Damper Discussion Thread

I figured that I would open up a thread here since it's directly related to forced induction. I'm looking to get a custom ATI damper made since they only offer for one for the rwd Ka and that one will not fit our motor too well and it would only be a bit more to get a right one made for our motor than the price that the rwd one cost. I mentioned this idea couple of weeks ago on here and a few guys expressed interest so on this thread we will discuss what options we need on this new damper, feel free to post your suggestions if interested.

I'd like to keep AC please.

What other options are available to choose from?

Is it possible for it to be underdriven? would that be a good or bad thing?

Keeping the A/C is no problem but the more belts you add the more the cost.
Read these and tell me what you think..

Good reads on both articles just to reconfirm and clarify any uncertainties.

I'm sure we want all of those items to be resolved in our block, especially since most of us will be sticking with the half balanced crank...

My main concern is torsion and deformation. I'd understand that eliminating these would allow the crank to be more efficient, potentially allow the crank to spin safely at higher rpm's.

A goal of 8,000 rpm redline I would be happy for.

There's also the difference in the weight of the rotating assembly, being that those with fully built engines typically have about 1 to 1.5lb of rotating assembly weight less than that of the oem internals. I'd like to know how the damper would react to that, in contrast to an oem internal.

I have heard nothing but good things about their dampers, but my question is if any of us ever do manage to complete an awd drive swap will the damper be as effiecent still. I ask because I may want to wait a month or 2 because the track season is done before I definietly say that I will buy one.

The damper does not serve to create harmonic balance in the transmission, but the engine. It's applicability is to the driveline and transmission, possibly a little or even not significant at all to the performance of an awd system in reference to how the engine will function.

Okay, my thought was that to make the awd altima work you would need to shift the engine slightly that was my concern.

As in options? Not very much, I just want it to work well up to 9000rpm, I can live with out the A/C ribs but I also dont mind if they are there. I really don't know much about what goes into making one of these so I will be asking alot of questions to the guys from ATI.

Nice. I would definately get one so I can rev the motor up to 7500 or 8500 rpm. without it tearing the motor apart.

Do not be fooled. The RPM's that SE is mentioning cannot be achieved without a built motor and mass customization of parts.

Do you think I would be able to rev to 7500rpm without a built motor?

If you have some internal components, you may be able to consistently reach the rpm, that's more about the tune than anything
