Exclamation Warning, Please Read - Do not buy from JDM Motor of Canda

1/26/2006
DO NOT BUY FROM JDM (Japan Domestic Motor) INC IN SAINT-LEONARD, QUEBEC, CANADA!!!

July of 2005 my boyfriend purchased a RB25DET motor and transmission, including the wiring harness and ECU for his 1995 240sx, from them for $2250 shipped. Great deal you may say, as did he. Boy was he wrong. Let me tell you the story and why you shouldn’t buy from them!

He’s a working man, works close to 10 hours a day, like most people out there. In his spare time he would work on his car. For the past 5 months he has been prepping the motor and trans to be put into the car. Along with this prep work, he had to replace a broken exhaust manifold stud that was either over tightened or broken during shipping. Also he had to replace the oil pan due to it being dented and scratched. He had to wait on parts from McKinney Motor sports, JDM Inc. themselves (since they didn’t send the wiring harness with the motor like they said they would), Greddy, and Exedy. This last weekend he went to put the motor and trans in. Everything went well until he went to bolt on the trans mount. For some reason it wouldn’t line up. He called McKinney Motor sports who then told him to look at two different things, the shift plate and the bell housing. If the shift plate is flat on top then it’s a RB20 transmission, if it is slanted down towards the rear of the car then it is a RB25 transmission. Lo and behold, JDM Inc sent him an RB20 transmission which is almost the same as what came on the car stock, for those that do not know.

The next day I called JDM Inc. (514-321-4449) to tell them that they shipped the wrong trans. I get the manager, and he is rude to start with. He interrupted me when I was trying to talk and wouldn’t let me finish. He told me there is nothing that he could do since it was purchased in July and their stuff only carries a one month warranty. I told him it wasn’t a warranty issue since nothing broke. He then says to me “Why didn’t the motor get put in the car after he received it?” After I went on a rant about all the stuff he was waiting for, the guy has the nerve to say to me, “How do I know you are telling the truth?” I lost it. All we want to do is return the wrong trans for the right one and they weren’t willing to do that. Finally I told him that his customer service was shitty and basically, that they sucked. The manager told me to call back the next day to talk to the owner. So I did. The owner, named Joe, told me that there are two different types of trans for the RB25 motor. What my boyfriend has been told by others in the import aftermarket scene is that there is only one for that motor, and it’s the one that he didn’t receive. I spoke with the manager for about 10-15 minutes and didn’t get anywhere because he too, was rude and would interrupt and not let me finish what I had to say. Finally I was fed up and said, “Fine, if we find out this trans is wrong, I will have his lawyer contact you.” I was then told that that was unnecessary and that he didn’t run a shady business. He also told me that if he wanted, my boyfriend could return the motor for a full refund; as long as it was back together they way it was sent. I told Joe that it took 3-4 weeks to get all the cut wires and crap off the motor, why would he want to put it all back on when all he wanted was the transmission. Joe told me that’s how it would have to be done. I told him that Britt (my boyfriend) would contact him if he had anymore questions and then a lawyer may contact him, since what he is doing could be considered fraud

Later in the day my boyfriend called Joe at JDM Inc and didn’t get anywhere with him either. Joe told him that he would e-mail him some info on the two types of transmissions for the RB25 motor tomorrow (today). It is now 2:40pm as I am writing this letter and I haven’t seen any info on the transmissions. He told him that if this matter is not resolved he was going to post (what I am doing right now) about the customer service and the fact that he just got screwed big time by these people that say they “know more about this motor then McKinney or anyone out there.” since they are a distributor and specialists.

In talking to other people out there, Britt has found out that there is only one transmission, not two like Joe at JDM Inc, has said. So know he is out of a trans, time and money and has to search for the right one.

PLEASE PLEASE save yourselves the time and headaches that this has given to my boyfriend. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING from these guys. They screwed him, how many more people are they going to screw over like this?

Thanks for reading!

An update: Britt’s dad (ex-FBI) is working with the FBI who is working with the Canadian Mounties on Canadian business owners committing fraud to US buyers. Hopefully this matter gets taken care of. Thanks again.

Also he does have the correct motor mounts and trans mount from McKinney Motor Sports so thats not the problem.

Sounds like sound advice! I'll be sure to sticky this, and copy it in Vender Reviews in the Marketplace

They didn't do anything. His dad (the lawyer) wasn't able to pull any strings. He ended up buying another RB with the right trans, so now he has one in the car and the other one sitting on a pallet with the RB20 trans attached to that. The car still isn't running, It was just put back on its wheels for the first time in 2.5 years. Next up is the turbo, custom made manifold, down pipe, IC pipe then it goes to paint to get the fenders, hood, and S15 conversion put on and all repainted. All this by March 9th for Autorama. We'll see what happens. He's just glad he was able to find another trans to get this long awaited project going.
