Alright, I added a Heads Up Display Pinouts diagram which shows were things should go. That is indeed much better than trying to figure it all out on your own. Thanks for bringing this up.

also do you have a non hud pinout to match pin number or is the it primarily the same,i.e. pin m42.3 the same as hud pin m42.3 placement wise or is they number in a different order

The pinouts are numbered the same way for both the HUD and non-HUD. The differences lie in whether those same pinouts were used in a M/T vs an A/T or HUD vs non_HUD. Lets take an example, M32.31 - the OD light. The A/T will have a wire there but the M/T will not. Why? Because the M/T doesn't have overdrive so that pin is blank.

Here's another example, M41.5 - this is the VSS output signal that feeds the ECU, ATCU, etc. The non-HUD will have a yellow/green wire coming out of M41.5. But the HUD cluster won't have this wire so that pin is also blank. Why is it like that in this case? Because the VSS output signal is coming directly from the HUD control module on the yellow/green wire at M45.58 to feed the ECU, ATCU, etc.

Just take this project one step at a time. If you have any doubt as to where a wire is supposed to go to then post it here and I'll try help you out.

ok i have power to it and i want be cutting the hole till i get her up and running,but i think two wires are in the wrong place, m45.54>m42.12 and m45.56>m42.28. those pin dont exist on those plugs on that pin so i put them the first one on m41.12 and the sec on m43.28/is this correct or im i wrong but why arent my dash lights working,if u could call and say more if needed

You are absolutely correct. I screwed up on the diagram! I'll fix the diagram and repost it.

As you mentioned, M45.54 should go to M41.12 (not M42.12). The M42 plug starts with pin 13. And M45.56 should go to M43.28 (not M42.28). The M42 plugs ends with pin 24.

Man, I'm glad someone else is doing this and putting me to the test. Keep going, you're getting there and making good contributions to this thread. Thanks.

Maybe its a blown fuse for the illumination system. Also check the dimmer switch. Finally recheck the wiring at M45.46 and try disconnecting it to see what happens.

ahh... now i feel less guilty

i would have put more effort into this if the mechanical gauges worked on the cluster, my hud is only good for converting the electronic signals to the display, which even so i would be too poor to just pick up the right speed sensor, other than that i had everything wired up and working properly.

Does the cluster also shows the Brake and Check lights coming ON as well? Disconnect the plugs only from the HUD module on the back of the cluster to see if they go out. Normally the brake light means that the emergency brakes are on. And the HUD Check light means a true engine check light is ON, in which case the cluster check light would also be ON. Or it could be that the seat belt is unclicked. Also make sure you are not getting any other lights that are coming ON in the cluster else that HUD CHECK light will also come ON.

94sealtima: I placed the HUD template at the beginning section of this thread. All you have to do now is to cut off the trace of the template from the paper. Then place that cutout onto a leather piece (or similar) and trace it out to be cut off. Finally use that leather piece to to mark up the location of the dash where you will cut out. Use the measurements shown with the measuring tape to locate the exact points.

ftnaltima: Are you saying the speedometer needle doesn't move? That should have given you a CEL if it were a VSS problem. The HUD cluster is known to fail for two main problems;

1. The HUD display won't come ON until it has warmed up some. The speedometer will still work fine irregardless.
2. The HUD display and speedometer shows a constant speed (~25mph) when the car is not moving. The trip and regular odometers also spins when the car isn't moving.
