Problem when filling up gas...

For some reason the gas pump sputters then stops as if the tank were full, when it obviously is not.

You know when you pay by credit card and the thing sputters and stops when it's a full tank, well, lately, it's been stopping for me at 3/4 full, what's going on?

Any ideas?

Thanks~!

Welcome to the club. some days mine will get up to the F line (but most times not), usually it clicks off and I get halfway inbetween full and 3/4. Guage could be off as well.

there is a little flap that closes up that hole. before you start to pump, just insert the nozzle a little so that the flap opens up. this releases some of the built up gas pressure that will trick the pump into thinking it is full. all has to do with pressure.

if the pump stops prematurely, just pull up on the nozzle so that you can let some gas vapor/pressure escape from the tank.

its not always your car, i worked at a gas station for a while and it used to happen all the time until they changed the pumps to the newer kind. SO maybe its the gas station if you go to the same place, i would say try somewhere else

lol, i scored when a local sunoco renovated, they did a grandreopening sale 1.89 a gallon in NYC.

BTW i had this problem once or twice. Though it could be the charchole canister i think it may be more of a problem with the pump nozzle/mechanism at the certain station.
The problem i had is that it would foam and bubble out and it was not even 1/2 full.

My guage also does not register completely full although i can put gas damn near the top. Though it does go past E quite far lol.
