How long does it take to replace the radiator fan motor?

The passenger side radiator fan does not work. The fuses, relays, and sensor are all good. Also, the driver side fan works well. I check Kragen, autozone, and online nissanpartstore and only find the whole fan assembly with both fans for about $143. This assembly is also on ebay for $97.5 + $20 shipping.

So I get a few questions here:

1. With only the driver side fan working, the coolant tempature is always very good (40% of the High) even in the hot summer with A/C on. It seems that Altima's cooling design is so good that one fan is enough to prevent engine overheating. So, is it necessary to fix this problem?

2. Where can I find the passenger side fan motor for a cheaper price? Is there any universal fan motor on the market?

3. How long does it take to replace the fan assambly? Is it a time-consuming work? I am wondering whether removing the radiator hoses and draining the coolant are required for this job.

Thanks for your suggestions.

i dont think both of my fans ever come on unless im running the a/c. even so, without the a/c, ive left my car in the driveway running for 45 minutes before to see if the fans would kick on. waste of time - they never did. replace them to be safe. its only about a 10 minute job.

Even when I was boosting, the fans were never on that often...I'd notice it when timing the car after driving that they would come on for some seconds and then turn off....

But def look into your AC...Asleep Altima basically said what I was going to about that part...

Thanks for your suggestions. When the A/C is turned on, the passenger side fan does not work at all. Maybe it is time for me to replace it.

I bought this car in Dec 2004 and did not inspect the fans carefully

I just remove the fan assembly from the car. The passenger side fan motor is dead. When I shake it, I can even hear the rattling sound of the broken parts inside this dead motor.

But I cannot fine ONE fan motor on the market. The fan assembly including two fans costs more than $100. Where can I find just one fan motor? Otherwise, do fan motors from other cars (accord, camry, civic, sentra, etc) fit our altimas?

I only found a 96 altima's fan assembly, but the electric connector does not fit. It will take some time to find a 2nd generation altima around the town.

So I just ordered a set of brand new assembly from ebay. $97.5 + $19.95 shipping - $5off ebay coupon - 1% credit card cash back. $111 shipped to my door. I will install it in this week.

It seems that this assembly is exactly the same as the Kragen's and mechanics' parts ($148 + tax or even more).
