Climate Controller

my climate control cluster is ****ed up. the dial that says 1-2-3-4 is broken i think. I have gone through 3 of the clusters, the only setting that works is 4. so its either really hot/cold. everything else works, like face, feet/face, feet, deftost/feet, defrost. all that works just not the turn dial. Its either on full blast or not at all. 1,2,3 dont work, just 4. please help.

Do a search for "blower resistor".

Blower Motor Resistor.
http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl965f.htm

VERY common repair on all early 90's Nissans.

Good news? You can fix it yourself for $17-$35, in 5 minutes with just a simple screwdriver.

I bought a new one from a parts store, and that wasnt the problem so i took it back. If im thinking what your thinking the resistor looks like something you would slide out of a computer. thin, circuit board about 3"long 1 1/2" wide. with two prods on it? and it has a plug on it. i have gone through 3 of those climate controllers so that cant be the problem.

They're not expensive on eBay... also, just use 4 or nothing because when it's nothing, air still comes out. On my Altima, if it's on hot, and the fan control is all the way to the left, it still stays warm.

I am not following you. Did you try to replace the blower resistor which is located at the electrical connector under the blower motor?

From my understanding the blower motor resistor is a OEM dealer only type part and a local parts store will not have it. Sure you bought what you think you did?

^^^ I agree. I don't think he knows what part to get. They definately don't carry this at autozone.

Check the resistances accross the contacts on the one you have then on a new one before you plug it in. If the resistances are the same then the store is selling you burnt out parts.

If the resistance is different on the new one then check it again after you plug it in. If the resistance changes on a new one then you've got an issue - maybe a short - on that circuit
