Front crank seal: How difficult to change?

Following Shawn's advice, I'm going to get the front crank seal changed on my 93 auto. I've done starters, alternators, etc before and my oil sending unit on mine and wasn't sure how hard it is. A mechanic told me 93's have either an internal or external oil pump which is hard to believe and cost will be based on 2 or 5 labor hrs plus the seal. Is this true, cause I haven't had time to check myself yet?

I think we all have internal oil pumps.

I agree that we all would have internal pumps, and it would not have anything to do with how much labor is involved in replacing the front seal, either.
Maybe you should try a mechanic who either doesn't believe that or isn't interested in making you believe it.

What your mechanic is refering to the fact that the oil pump is integrated into the timing chain cover. Unfortunately that is the design of a KA24DE and there isn't much you can do about it. Good luck man!

The flat rate one the front crank seal is 2.0 Hours ... So we would charge $128 plus the cost of the seal and belts if they were needed .... The job really isnt all that hard , but getting the front crank bolt off and back on is very difficult without the correct tools and Air tools !!! I would suggest just paying a good Nissan/Import tech to do it .... It will be less headache in the long run !!!!

Thanks guys, probably will. I just did my wheel cylinders and have a bad habit of breaking bolts off in motors (like my NightHawk 700S) so I think I'll leave it to someone w/ the tools!
