Famous P0325 Knock sensor malfunction....

Wsup everyone, i got these codes pulled today at autozone.

P0325 knock sensor 1 circuit malfunction bank 1 or 1 sensor and
P0440 Evap emission control system malfunction.

The sales guy mentioned that they might be from a loose gas cap and sure enough it was loose when i checked (this is my girl's 99 altima SE with 103k miles). so my questions is how can i clear the check engine light. thanks everyone and this is an awesome forum.

I had the po325 and it was a bad sensor. Now with a new one the engine shows more power.

Sounds like you have to replace this sensor and i have heard its a pretty difficult job.

P0440 Evap emission control system malfunction

Check your EGR Valuve to see if you have press down on the diaphram as thats what could be triggering the CEL. Also check the EVAP Canister too and the tubes for damage ect.

This was discussed recently....

However, changing it out can be very time consuming if you try to get at it the usual way. And most places will charge you anywhere between $150 - $300 just to change the sensor. And the damn part costs more than $150 itself.

As for clearing the CEL, take the car back to Autozone and they will do that. Only change the knock sensor if the code comes back in a couple of days/weeks. It may or may not turn the CEL on - different models/years seem to have different experiences with this. So you should get the codes pulled in a couple of weeks even if the CEL does not come on.

You can pull the negative battery terminal and leave it off for 24 hours, that will reset the ECM.

or you can do it the easy way by turning the screw on the side of the ecu... search for it, ive written it about 20 times by now...

I am thinking that since it the code came up because the gas cap was loose, I will have it reset and see if it comes back again before replacing it. btw am in the south shore MA area if there are others near me. laterz
