KA24de Intake manifold shortcut

Long story short, I had the rough idle, loss of power that pops up because the intake manifold gasket fails. Here's a shortcut I found from another forum and it does seem like an easier way to do this job-

I had an earlier comment about my 1999 Nissan Altima Gxe.
It developed an intake manifold leak at #4 cylinder and the
repair manual said because it was very difficult to get at
the manifold bolts it was best to remove the engine head and
then to remove the intake manifold and gasket. Then re-install the head. __Forget this advise__! It requires the removal of too many pieces. The better and easier way (as I learned from a mechanic at Nissan after I had already stripped away many parts) is to remove the starter and then loosen the manifold bolts until there is about a 3/8th inch gap between the manifold and the head. Now remove the top bolts. This is difficult, but can be done. Then remove the old gasket using a thin putty knife. The new gasket can be installed by enclosing it in thin cardboard and sliding it into the 3/8th inch gap from the top of the engine. Before doing this cut out pieces from the gasket that contains the round holes where the manifold bolts are which will then allow the gasket to be slid into place. Then the cardboard must be removed by pulling it out from the bottom with a needle nose plier. Then the bolts must be replaced and torqued in the proper sequence. This procedure is not easy. It may take one day of trial and error, but compared to removing the head it is a snap.
Good luck. Ron at: ra7434@merr.com.

Leave it to a Nissan mechanic to find short cuts and let dealerships rip people off for labor!

I got a quote of 500$ from my Nissan dealer. This job, regardless of shortcuts, is not for an average mechanic. Trust me!

What I mean to say, is that without help and tips from other folks, the job is "too" tough. Tell ya what, have at it and let me know how it goes.

Yes, but the threads I read here involved pulling the intake and lower collector completely off. This seemed like a heck of a time saver.
I actually printed out 1 of threads from here as a guide to help my project. This other way seems much easier.

OK, I'll go slow.
I printed out Paradox's thread and also read jserranos threads about the manifold removal. If YOU would read the first thread in this post, you will see that the proposed method is far less involved than all of the others, including yours. Your pictures were nice and the writeup was good.
The last thread you posted isn't even on this forum, so I'm not sure where you are going? Do you want me to NOT post a different way of doing this? I'm just trying to help.
BTW- The 99 KA24de in an Altima has a lot more crap on it than yours does.
