Honestly I never investigated the issue cause I hardly run A/C due2the power and gas it uses up. My chirp went away on its own but, when I feel the A/C run thru a cycle or say the fans kick on while im at a consistant speed, that is when I feel a slight hesitation in power. It could just be a load issue that the belt is taking on so check that first.
I see. The way I understand it when the A/C kicks in its expected that there will be slight power loss simply because theres a bigger load on the engine and it needs to readjust.
I'm looking to get this fixed before my girlfriend and I go on our trip to Quebec City in a month. Having A/C is definitely a must on such a long trip on the highway so I want to be able to use it without being afraid the car will blow up. haha.
Just turn the steering to right full lock(all the way) the adjuster pully is right there, don't even have to jack up the car! and yes A/C is the best, in town and trips!

Oh yea? That sounds easy enough. I'll have a look when I get off from work. Is there anything I should look out for or do I follow the same instructions as you previously posted ?

Underneath the car, remove the splash guard 2 10mm bolts, and the adjuster is right there 14mm wrench loosen the nut on the adjustment pully, turn the bolt counter clock wise to tighten the belt.
For instance, is there a splash guard that I need to remove? And what do you mean by loosening the nut before turning the bolt? Counter-clockwise to tighten (not righty-tighty eh...)?
Haha sorry for the questions I'm a newbie and like to know as many details as possible so I can be ready when I actually do it. Most likely I'm making too much out of a simple task though so thanks in advance for your patience.
I have a 00 Altima SE and had exactly the same problem. It was solved when I changed my old cracked surpentine belt (not the AC belt).

My question is this: When on the highway at over maybe 2300rpm, if the A/C is on, the car will at random intervals make a short squeak/screech noise. This is always accompanied by a slightly noticeable loss of power. It usually lasts for less than 1 second. Everything works fine, and the A/C is still cold as ever for the whole trip. I've driven the car for around 3 hours straight on the highway and there are no issues apart from this slight squeak.
From what I've read by using the search function, it seems like the problem is with slack on the alternator belt and that tightening it will be the solution.
If anyone has any ideas or opinions please let me know

I hope its not that
I'm just going to post a link to a thread I found on here that dealt with changing belts because the pictures are extremely helpful. Its for my own reference.
Anyway, the good news is that the problem is not with the AC. Originally the belt was changed on my car not to get rid of the screech. The belt was just too old and cracked and needed to be replaced. The changing accidentally solved the AC screeching problem. So if your belt happens to be old, just change it. If not, just adjust it and the screech will go. Good luck.

So I tried to tighten both the A/C belt and the Alternator belt. I think I ran into a few problems:
1. The bolt that I need to loosen before tightening the tensioning bolt seems to be immovable on both the Alternator belt and the A/C belt
2. Even despite #1, I was able to tighten (turn to the right because righty tighty) the two belts. The Alternator belt I think I found a good balance for. Its tighter than before but not the absolute tightest that I can get it to go.
3. The A/C tightening bolt...seems to be able to turn forever. When I turn the bolt, I can tell that I am tightening it, but it doesnt have the same kind of "tight" feeling as when I tighten the alternator belt. It feels the same after a few turns as it did before...I'm wondering if its because I haven't loosened the pulley, or if I should keep going until I get that "I can't tighten it anymore" feeling and back off a little bit?
I haven't actually gone and tried out the car yet though because I know its traffic hour out there right now, but I will try it later on tonight. However, that means if I haven't fixed the problem I will have to work on it tmw afternoon :P
