Wire tuck and battery relocation

So I wanted to do this for a while. My main driving points to do this are when I lower my car, over hard bumps the drivers side tire could hit the main engine harness running through the wheel well at the top. It didn't hit bad, but I wanted to be a little lower and I don't want to ever have to worry about possibly cutting into the wire harness with the tire.

I decided to tuck that harness inside of the frame of the suspension tower. My buddy and I were part way through the job when I decided I was also going to relocate my battery to the trunk. And I also decided to relocate the two fuse boxes next to the battery inside the wheel well. So here I am now. Been working on it today and we are going to finish it up tomorrow.

Now two things:

1) Remember I'm not done yet! Don't judge till you see the final product!

2) I'm not a professional mechanic, but I do know what the **** i'm doing. This isn't a faq for doing this but I believe theres probably enough pictures here for someone to follow and do it themselves. I'm not responsible if you screw up your car.

And the pics:

Just Starting:

This is approximately where the battery tray will be in the trunk:

This is where one of the fuse boxes will be:

And a random pic I decided to throw in:

I think a wire tuck is a hot thing to do. It cleans up the engine bay really nice. Im just not a fan of having fuses and relays were I cant get to them easy. Also what are you attaching the wires with? Just tape? I would solder and and shrink rap and them loom the hell out of the harnesses.

Do a battery relocation and it'll clean things right up. Even if you do your wire tuck right now with so much garbage in your engine bay you won't be able to see how 'clean' it will be.

Alright well first of all to se94altima, I didn't come into your thread about your idea of putting dual N1 exhausts and hate on you, I contributed to your thread even though i thought it was a dumb idea. And I especially didn't use the FIRST response post in your thread to hate on you. So i'd appreciate the same level of respect from you. Respect goes a long way on this forum, and your new, so learn respect now and learn it well. Asleep isn't going to come into this thread and hate on me, he has more respect than that. And just so you know, Ultimatic was the original person that inspired me to do something like this a long long time ago, not some "gay honda guy". And if your not familiar with Ultimatic, look him up and learn a thing or two.

The start of this project all came about because of a suspension issue. When trying to get the maximum possible handling and performance out of my car, i would hit the wire harness in the wheel well over large bumps when my car was sitting pretty low. That was the original reason I got into this. After starting I decided I wasn't just going to move the wires so my tire didn't rub them, I was going to do a wire tuck and move my battery to the trunk as well (also for a performance based reason-not just to clean up the engine bay). And now it's going to go a little furthur....

Now for the update:

It's going furthur than what I originally planned. I decided to put my car down for a few weeks. During the next few weeks I'm pulling the engine, doing a complete wire tuck (including the fuse box on the passenger side as well), and most likely painting the engine bay. Reasoning for doing this is to do some much needed work to the engine. This includes removing those lower timing chain guides that rattle, replacing a lot of gaskets that include leaky ones, and cleaning the inside of the intake manifold. Also possibly painting the valve cover. Also, without the engine in the car it will be much easier to play around with where I'm moving all the wires to. Almost forgot, I'm also completely removing the dashboard to make things a little easier, and to fix a clutch pedal bracket problem thats plagued me for a long time (don't even get me started on that...). I also might redo my interior to black since all the panels will be out. And shit, since the engine's out, I might as well have someone seam weld the front part of the chassis for me since I'll be seam welding the whole chassis eventually anyway.

To the other people who asked some questions. Yes I'm absolutely soldering every single wire and wrapping it in heat shrink. I'm doing this as professionally as possible with the absolute best results in mind. Also, I'll be putting the fuse boxes in locations that are easy to get. I'm actually not going to have that fuse box in the wheel well where I thought, I might move all the fuse boxes to underneath the cowl. Actually in the wheel well was perfect because the fuse box was upside down so I could look right up under the front bumper and it was right there easy to get to. To blackalti: I modified the OEM battery tray (cut off the random bolt hole flanges) so that the tray would sit flat on the trunk floor. I decided to mount it on the left because there is easy access to a frame rail right there to securely bolt it to. Also I put it on the left for some other reasons that are going to come about later down the road. Other than that, I'm just extending the power wire from the engine bay just like an amp to the rear and using a 4 guage wire (which I'm still convinced isn't large enough but my friends are convincing me otherwise) and then just creating a good solid ground in the trunk.

I don't quite know what you mean by this?

Don't worry, next update coming next weekend with more pics after I pull the engine.

I like it man! I've thought about it for a while, but I'm not near skilled enough to do it yet. Maybe a couple years down the road. Here's something I saw in Super Street I think:

Gallery - Home

It's expensive as f*ck, but I think it made a HUGE difference in the EK they did it on. Good luck man!!

wasnt tryin to hate,i made sure i stated that in my post-also true he might have thought of it first-but yea gay honda guys made it popular to do,so no harm done by what you said n good luck with it,i planne in the future to move those two fuse boxes by the battery for extra room, let me know how that 4 gauge wire works for a postive cable so i can do a battery relocation, also what else r moving the battery for and why the left side,n my exhaust thread im out to copy apexi's dual n1 system for the 240sx and thats why i asked opinions since i couldnt get a mandrel bent 3in exhaust,n plus apexi's system provides the midrange torque that normaly falls off a littlewith that size piping,so sorry to bump heads wit you and yea i have respect for all da old guys on here dats why i said i wasnt hatin.

Ever since the old days with hot rods, wire tucks have been very popular. It hasn't just recently become popular because of anything to do with honda's. I'm moving the battery for better weight distribution as well as for room in the engine bay for intercooler piping later down the road. As for the specific reasons for mounting on the left side of the trunk is because of something a little ways down the road. Besides easy access to the frame rail right underneath, the other reason is so that things will fit cleaner in my trunk. Now as far as what other "thing" will be in the trunk, thats a secret for now...

I can't wait for this weekend, hopefully i'm pulling the engine
