I got it to work for now, simply by cleaning the lens and unit in general. It rarely does the cd err thing now, but I have a feeling it has to do with worn out laser. If so thats $20 from pac parts (and I'm pretty handy, even with tiny screws).

Next questions is, what would you guys recommend I get for speakers, so that I don't have to change them when I get a new head unit? I just bought Pioneers TS-G1642R cause I liked how crisp they sound, but they lack in bass... I'm going to instal these in doors only. I'd like something that sounds pretty good, but has a bit more bass without breaking the bank or using an amp. Like I said, I really don't want to go crazy here, just need something that sounds good for my wife.

Thanks in advance!

rockford fosgates are pretty good. i have a pair in the front doors on my car. i managed to get the pair for cheap from bestbuy though becuase they were a discontinued model($45 for the pair, they're worth $200) but rockford's in general have good bass imo. no amp needed but then again my head unit has enough rms watts to push them. i agree with rtk, upgrade your hu, decent ones aren't that expensive nowadays. just don't buy a Dual or Sony xplod.

The great majority of CD read problems occurs because of a worn laser. That CD error is most likely because the laser is wearing out.

So what do you guys think of this:

clarion ts-g1642r in front $30
kicker 07ds600 in rear $45

Under 100 it seems it should sound pretty good, and definitely better than the torn stock ones! BTW anyone here use buy.com? I've always been an amazon guy, but am getting mixed reviews on buy.com.

Awaiting someones blessing

Just so you're aware, the stock speakers in the alty are clarions. Might as well go with kickers in the doors as well. Oh and get a new(er) h/u to avoid getting any more cd read errors. Jvc makes some decent ones nowadays.

Never used buy.com though so cant give an opinion on it.

Ok I'm loosing my sanity....I meant to say Pioneers in the front! LOL so

Pioneer ts-g1642r in front $30
kicker 07ds600 in rear $45

For the head unit, can anyone recommend a touchscreen for under $400 with GPS and everything? I want a full size one though, not a pullout since that would cover a/c controls.

Just finished popping the Kickers in the rear, and bummer...I hear very faint static from them... Checked with the stock ones, and same thing. Anyone have experience with this? Is it because the 4 speakers are not the same or just because factory H/U sucks?

You can only really notice it when the music is barely playing, so from volume 1 to 6 or so its noticeable. I'd appreciate any input on this if anyone has dealt with this before. I just don't want to eventually be putting in a new H/U and realize that something is wrong with the cabling somewhere...

Thanks!

I don't know of any h/u that includes touchscreen, gps, etc for under $400. and yes i'm banking on the stock h/u being the cause of the static. They suck balls. Which is why i pulled mine out the day i got my car.

also if you do get one of those pullout h/u you can swap the location of it and the a/c controls with a little modification. I know of a couple members that did that with their car but can't remember who off the top of my head though.
