97 altima wont start.need help

OK my 97 altima manual trans wont run. real quick bout 2weeks ago i was driving the car everything was fine. i drove it through a large puddle and it stalled out in the puddle. I pushed it out and 5 mins later it started really rough ran shitty. the next day ran ok at first then rough. then for 2 days i left it to dry out. i had weak spark and oil in the distributor. i replaced the distributor and the plugs which were black but had been replaced a month b4. it ran great for like 20 mins then would only idle ad not rev above 2000 rpms. I read in a different thread about the fuel pump causing this problem.I replaced the pump and the strainer. since then it will not run. when i first crank it it will sputter like it wants to start then just crank. If i squirt starting fluid it will run fine till i stop squirting it. I took off the fuel rail and fired the injectors and got a really weak mist from all of the injectors. I am wondering what is wrong. any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem is with the MAF.

Electrically they are the same but there can be physically different harness connector. So proceed with caution if you need a direct fit.

You can always change the distributor again if you got one with a full time warranty. I think it's your MAF too. Try cleaning it and/or read it's voltage.

On a side note, I have a spare MAF I can sell. It is for 95-97, I can give you the number on the unit to see if it'll match yours..

The only relationship that the distributor and MAF has is that they both share a common power line and a common shielding ground.

That 0.03V from the MAF is not right. With the ignition key set to ON (engine not cranking or running) you should read about 0.24V or so. Try wiggling on the MAF harness wire near the plug to see if the scanner shows significant changes.

The MAF is very sensitive to any small voltage change - every 0.08V change is meaningful. How much voltage does the scanner shows when someone is cranking the engine? It should rise to over 0.85V at some point before the engine starts. You should also monitor the injector pulsewidth and rpm and capture that to a log file so we can take a look at it. Irregardless of the distributor the MAF should behave as mentioned above.

the maf sensor has .37 to .40 now. but i have the same problem. it wont start unless i spray starting fluid. then it will run and then bog out like it is flooding out. i have a log file while the ignition is on but engine is not running because i cant get it to run long enough to get the scanner to record anything. i don t know if that will help. if you guys think it will i will post the recorded data.
i replaced the maf but no significant change. im lost

So even though you replaced your plugs, have you checked them since you've installed them?
