Squealing/Screeching Sound on Acceleration

Hello! We have a 1998 Altima (approx 92,900 miles) that my wife primarily drives. She reports that when she steps on the gas, there is an intermittant screeching/squealing sound. I've driven the vehicle and I can't get it to happen; it seems to only occur when the car is cold and only when she's pressing on the gas.

We just took it to a local service place for an oil change and a 29-point courtesy inspection. I'm not sure what all they checked, but what kinds of things that could escape an inspection cause this type of issue? Is it anything serious?

our 93 did it to and it ended up being the AC belt try driving it with the air on and see if it will do it if it does just tighten the belt a little

yeah, that sounds like a belt is loose.

either the drive belts are loose or too tight. Or in my case the a/c compressor failed and is burning the belt.

Sounds like belt to me. It should also squeal when you turn the steering wheel when the car isn't moving.

Check tension and maybe get a can of belt dressing.

EDIT: could also be that the belt is aging. It gets more grip to turn the pulleys once it warms up. Kinda like cold tires, they grip better once they've warmed up.

Well it does appear to be the air conditioner/belt. I had her try driving with the AC off - no squeal. The moment she turned the AC back on, it started.

The air conditioner is functional (I'd have heard if it didn't work at all!) so this seems to follow others' experience of being a belt too loose/too tight/too old.

Considering that I sometimes have trouble hanging a pictures, how would I go about tightening/loosing a belt without, you know, causing the car to explode?

I have noticed a few times while driving down the highway that my Altima will give a squeal. Now that my radiator is low of fluid I am thinking it is my water pump that is failing. Although, my A/C has been on both times the squeal happened. EDIT: fluid dripping close to the A/C drip except a larger pool with radiator fluid. Will be tearing into the water pump first thing in the morning.
