MevoTech Ball Joints and Tie Rod Ends - BEWARE!

Guys;

If you are looking for a cheap set of ball joints for the Alti, let me warn you about the MevoTech Ball Joints (and tie rods)

Specifically, MEVOTECH MK90386 Ball Joint from Rock Auto.

If you order them, the should have a BLACK boot, NOT A BLUE ONE. The Blue ones are old stock, and the boot is incorrectly attached at the large end. The blue boot is actually larger then the knurled ring. When you go to press the BJ in, it will hang on the boot, rip it, and render the BJ useless.

The new MevoTech BJ has a black boot, and has been redesigned to fix this problem..... guess which one I got

I have talked to RockAuto, and am returning them. They also said they will check the warehouse and remove any with blue boots.

Also, the Tie rod ends are advertised as being greasable - they are NOT - no grease fitting.


I am returning all of them, and buying Moog.

Just wanted y'all to know.

I got the deeza ball joints from rockauto. Somebody on one of the forums did a side by side of the deeza premium vs. the moog (with pics), and the deeza won hands down. I thought they were greaseable, but they aren't. The deeza are made in turkey. I also got deeza sway links for the rear, and they look good too. Moog made in China now??

For my other suspension parts, for $100, I got 2 control arms (with cheap OE brand ball joint), 2 inner tie rods, 2 outer tie rods, and 2 front sway links. Everything OE brand (i.e. cheap China parts they also sell at advanced auto parts).

Everything looks FTW, except the OE brand ball joints. Don't want to go cheap there. I do plan on putting everything else on, maybe not the control arms though. . Either way, will press out the OE brand ball joints and put in the Deeza's instead.

Ooo, good looking out, cuz i think i'll be in need of some in the near future... so ur saying MevoTech is ok if its black not blue... or should i avoid em all together?

OP you are absolutely right, I bought those exact tie-rod ends from rock auto and the boot ripped within 1 week.

Avoid them all together, considering the chance you might get the bad/blue one.

Why take the risk it if you know there is potential for defects?

Get Moog or a brand you know a problem such as this would be very unlikely to occur.

The black boots should be OK, as far as fitment.
I don't know about the overall quality. When I re-ordered, I went with Moog.
