2000 Altima: Broken cable on the Trunk Release. How to replace?

Hi all,

I have a broken cable (plastic part on the cable near the latch handle) and have found a replacement. The problem is how to remove it.

I know I need to (and have done so) remove the seat and follow the trunk release cable. The problem is that it runs behind the gas tank.

I am having a problem since there is very little room back there to see what to unscrew in order to release the cable. I can barely see back there. I can see some of the mechanism but don't know how to proceed.

If anyone has a scan of the manual or knows how to remove the cable from that spot please let me know.

PS. the replacement I have found is on a junked car. The part is intact but I don't want to damage it while I remove it.

Thanks!

BeeCee should chime in with how to remove this cable as I believe he had issues with his too.

I could use the same info; the section that goes to the gas door is broken on my car.
