Powder Coating NIB K&N SRI System

Ok in this viewing, I will be powder coating a K&N SRI for a 2007-2012 Altima 2.5. Below are the pics of the system as it arrived to me. It is NIB and already powder coated a metallic silver. The owner wishes to change the color to maybe a flat/matte black or wrinkle black. A vibrant color may not be out of the question. His car is a slate grey. Opinions on a potential color change? Must be quick as a fast turn around on this needs to take place. (I only have a 2 day window to get this completed)

The next few pics show the rushed job when these parts were originally powder coated. They wont look like this after the color change. Not a big deal but 1st appearances are everything, and powder should not be applied to close tolerances or threaded areas.

The imperfections of the factory powder coating really bothered me so I just HAD to "fix" it. lol So I decoated (stripped) it.

After chemical strip:

Then...after media blasting:

haha, I just noticed the thread......great idea!!!!

Many different opinions may help........so tell us what you think guys!!!!!

Ok Lawrence now that I can see this thing a little better, Can the Silver tubing be powder coated or painted? If powder coated maybe following the same theme as the strut bar with the silver part being black chrome and the heat shield being wrinkle or staying the same??????????

all these great minds on here tell me what you think?

with a red, black, splash a chrome under the hood theme, what color would you make this SRI

The strut bar is already done in black chrome and wrinkle blaclk brackets
The engine cover will eventually be painted red with black ribs

The tube can absolutely be powder coated. I also thought about the Black Chrome to continue the theme, but since the tube is a SRI I also thought this would be a great opportunity to add a lil splash of color...hence the red option...but lol at the end of the day its what makes you happiest.
I have alot of different colors in stock, but wouldnt venture to extreme or youll throw off the balance of the theme. Maybe the engine cover could be painted a color close to the Black Chrome finish with black ribs, then the red tube would look perfect. Radiator brackets would look great in the Wrinkle Black. Would match the FSTB brackets perfectly.

Done
Thats it, I love the engine cover idea, less of a bam bam of red..

Ok so the tubing in red....nailed down.
the housing in wrinkle or as it is ??? as it is may match the surrounding areas better. I love the wrinkle but as an accent is where I think it looks best maybe not as a main piece. what do you think?
anything else need a decision?
I'll have to accquire some radiator brackets to send you on a future project but I like the wrinkle black on those as well..

Sounds good...Besides that "other" part that you shared pics of, the one that is anodized red, can also be coated red to match your overall theme. You dont want 2 different shades of red. lol

Yes but not in time for your deadline. Its a 2 step process....apply reflective chrome, then apply the anodized red powder, and top it off with a satin clear coat to give that anodized look. (to match, I would still need to eventually have the "other" part if you want them to match as close as possible, but if your not considering that part, I can still coat the tube anodized red....would just need to order the anodized red powder)

Ok, unfortunately i have to stick to this deadline. Do you have a sample pic of the red color you are thinking of doing the tubing in? Another option is for to try and overnight this pulley to you if you think you could have it back to me in time. Thanks for all your help!

Here are a few pics of the red I am referring to. Dont worry about the finish. On the tube, because it is smooth, the finish will aslo be smooth. The calipers look like this because they are anything but smooth in comparison.

Red Wagon, before Gloss Clear top coat was applied (Altima SER calipers):

Red Wagon WITH Gloss Clear top coat (rear 350Z calipers):

As far as the pulley...overnight is quite expensive, but of course I could get it done and ship it back along with the SRI system.....

These are what I am looking at to see how the intake looks installed. Red really would make his engine bay pop just enough without being overly done....still waiting on the final work though. I think its red....lol Pics below courtesy of Twista Has the Injen SRI) and TA2-TA (Has the same exact SRI)

its pretty stock in these pics but the battery tie and the strut bar are black chrome, the brackets on the strut bar are in wrinkle black. Eventually I think a red top battery might look good against the battery tie and match the theme. Ive also got a couple of nismo caps that of course have the chrome black red going. Some of the hosing will eventually be done in a black chrome sleeve as well.

heres a photo chop when we were thinking red on the engine cover with black ribs......the red is not the red I would want its just what I got from a photo chop request

heres another option but I really didn't like it

heres the pulley

I think red on the tubing is the right call and it makes sense being a performance part. I like that gloss red wagon color, I think that will pop without over pop like maybe the engine cover would have. Once I get the strut bar and SRI installed I will try to get another photo chop on the engine cover to see what the black chromish will look like with black ribs and vice verse.....I mulled over that dam pulley all night, with it not really being that visible I think I'm going to leave it as is, I hope I don't regret that call and If I do other little accents in red like a battery that would be a different shade of red as well but yet in the theme.
As far as the black heat shield housing, I'm inclined to leave it black. Anyway I hope I didn't slow down progress with my slow response time, I was surprised you received it on Wednesday.
