I think that most people that are saying they would not buy a rental... remember what THEY have done to a rental at one point in time... being under 21... I haven't really driven a rental all that much... since its illegal... etc... but if I had the option... even for a few grand more... I'd opt for the new one... yeah... you might get a good car... at a great price... but are you willing to take the risk that you could get a POS... and once its out of warranty... you're SOL ?

Just something to think about... as everyone else has pointed out.... either way... Good Luck getting an Altima!

I saw rental videos. going in reverse and then forward was mean. the other video of revving the engine and accelerate into tight turns was ok. I had Nissan Murano for a rental went i went to take my car, i floored couple of times to see the feel, nothing horrible. Most of the people who do get rentals are businessman/visitors who tend not to abuse cars. But there is always that chance the car went through some young blood. gamble. Even though Enterprise does maintain their cars, not like they are going to change transmission or engine if its in bad shape you know. I believe it is safer (car reliability wise) and cheaper (no dealer fees, but no warranty either) to buy used car from private party. To each his own. Either way good luck with the purchase.

My sister bought a 99 cavi from enterprise and it turned out to be a turd. Mostly because she didn't maintain it and it was a Chevy. But I've know others who have bought enterprise cars and have had no problems.
I rented a 2.5 Altima once. Went back to the rental place with newly warped rotors, worn tires, and a now broken in motor.

I would never buy a rental car unless you were a seasoned mechanic.

I have beat the crap out of many rental cars in my day. I would strongly advise against getting one.

You don't get a credit score of 737 by making dumb decisions. Don't let this be your first. Just my opinion.

Another thing I want to point out...

I can guarantee you that there is NO rental car or former rental car out there that was properly broken in.

True that. Last year I rented an '07 Sentra from Hertz. I picked it up with 150 miles on it. I put 300 miles of it, mostly highway. And trust me when I say that I didn't follow proper break in procedures. Red-line city baby!

I went to the Enterprise last night. They quoted me at $14,955 OTD for the blue 2.5s with 23.8k miles on it. This morning they called me and lowered their offer to $14,421 OTD.

I also went to a Chrylser dealership and test drove a red 07 2.5s with 24k miles on it (carfax confirms this one was a rental too). They gave me their rock bottom price of $14,655 OTD last night. Today I got a call and they offered $14k OTD.

Both cars drove well during my tests and didn't have any exterior or interior issues that I could see.

Lots of you were saying not to buy a rental, but I'm still riding the fence on this one.

What if I call up one of those independent mechanics to look at the car before I purchase it? I think they run $150 to look at a car?

Also remember the resale value of the car. The carfax is branded as a rental, that won't go away. So whether or not you may be willing to buy the rental, the resale value when you go to sell it will be significantly lower than if it wasn't a rental. Remember depreciation is the most expensive part of owning any car. I would avoid the rental for sure!

if you are serious about the rentals, do pay to have them independently inspected...or if you buy it from carmax, buy their extended warranty.

Having a mechanic look at it is a good idea if you're not sure what to look for. Do any of those dealerships offer warrantees or anything for those cars? Sometimes, the side effects of car abuse won't rear it's head until thousands of miles later...

I still agree with most of the posters here....rentals =

I can't believe those that openly addmitting to operating someone else's property with little or no regard to damages caused by ones antics, if that damage could harm the next driver, nor what could could possibly be interpreted as unsafe operation that might have endangering others on the road.

So many folks don't seem to respect anything anymore.
Use, abuse, and lose!
Kind of how many employers view us workers these days!

As to buying a rental I'd suggest having a trusted indie check the car out.
