Buying a 2007 2.5s that was a rental car

First, I just want to say Hi. I hope I'm a new Nissan Altima owner in the coming days. Long story short, I'm sick of paying premium gas and getting poor gas mileage on my 99 Acura TL (113k miles on it), so I'm in the market for an 07 Altima 2.5s.

I went to a nissan dealer last night and could not get them down on the price, so I walked. He wouldn't go lower then 17,600 for the car with 21k miles on it and would only give me $3.5k on my trade in. Not to mention a $600 documentation fee that they WOULD NOT budge on. OTD was $15,900.

So tonight I'm going to check out another 2007 altima 2.5s, blue with 21,500 miles on it. The car is located at an Enterprise Car Sales lot, and a carfax report confirms it was a rental. Enterprise has it listed at $16,900 NO HAGGLE.

My bank gave me a rate of 5.9 for 60 months. My credit score is about 737.

If I can get 4k for my trade and get $13k + tax and title I will be very happy.

I just want to know of any opinions on this situation. Any experience buying from a rental car place? Would you be happy with a deal like $14,400 OTD?

I don't know about everyone else, but when I get a renal I drive the piss out of them. Not saying the one you are looking at was, but its a possibility. Go test drive a new one and then take the used one out on a drive. Floor them a few times, listen for rattles, clunks, squeaks and all the other noises they make make and compare them.

My sister bought a 99 cavi from enterprise and it turned out to be a turd. Mostly because she didn't maintain it and it was a Chevy. But I've know others who have bought enterprise cars and have had no problems.

An Enterprise rental???? I've driven that car and it's the FASTEST car in the world.....

personally $700 is worth not having a car that people probably beat like a dead mule, but maybe that's just me..... Unless you can find a better deal at another dealership rather than the first one, the price difference may be worth paying for the lack of possible heartache....

You make good points, but seems like a lot of the 07s in my area are former rental cars, whether they are for sale at Enterprise or at a Nissan Dealership.

we have someone who actually has bought a rental....and look @ his experience...and seriously how much damage can be done to a car with only 21K on it, rental places perform regular maintenance on time...sounds like a good deal to me...and they're transferring the factory warranty to you right? if so i'd go for it

ive known a few ppl to purchase rental cars and they've had no problems, kinda wish i had gotten one, but i sacrifced a couple yrs (and alotta about 30K miles grrrr) for more options

Go into Youtube and search for altima rental car and you tell me how much damage CAN be done in a lot less than 21K miles.....

Look, buying a former rental doesn't mean it's guaranteed to have been ragged out.... but it does increase the chances.....

mine was a rental, its mechanically sound and the only thing that was wrong with it was alittle gash in the lower door plactic...

i can tell you what, i dont regret at all paying 16k for my 07 altima, and it only had 18k on it.

The dealership is probably in that car around $14500 with shipping and safety inspection. A whole bunch of them (former rentals) went at auction for $13.5-$14k (manheim Pheonix and Seattle). Shop around and you should be able to pick up the car for $16000 or maybe even a little less.

<-------Paid $14,770 for a spotless 07 rental with 16k

I bought a rental and have had no problems with it. Plus is that you start out getting the good mileage and don't have to wait till 10,000 or w/e it is to get that.

That's what CzechM8 said. Saw the video, it pains me. For a $700 difference get the better one. As for myself, there wasn't a rental that I did not take out for a joy ride.

I've only driven 3 rental cars. A Ford Fusion that wasn't too bad, but didn't really have too much fun with it, a Chevy Impala which doesn't have enough balls to have fun with, and a Tahoe that ruled, but I drove it in LA, so I didn't get to have too much fun there either.

I wouldn't do it. That's just me, and obviously a few others as well.
