they use factory projectors from other cars (TSX, S2000, etc.) to do their retrofitting.
i cant wait to hear back and see how it goes
i plan to get my second retrofit done in about 2-3 months. i do it with this guy in california. his work is awesome and trustworthy. i found out about him in the hidplanet forums. that guy does about 10-12 retrofits per month. i plan to use honda s2000 or tsx projectors on it. those are considered to be top line projectors. as well as the ones on the evo's
Wow wasn't expecting this thread to be this popular.
Well, since u guys have requested pics, I will post some tomorrow after I get my headlamps tinted.
As for those who would like to know the price and make, my kit was purchased from a local dealer, branded as GT HID kits, purchased it for $120 CAD, but only because the guy who sold them to me was a friend of a friend. Regular price would have been close to $300.
They are all digital slim ballasts with 6000k HIDs.
Moreover, it is true that you technically should not put HID bulbs inside halogen housings. Mainly because OEM HIDs have a differed housing with proper reflectors in order not to cause glare. However, Nissan's price on HIDs are $1295 per headlight assembly here in Canada. So yah no...
but yah, I'll post pictures later tomorrow once I get my overlays and tints done.

I see a lot of people put HID bulbs inside halogen housings. So my questions would be Does it worth do in it? Or should I just leave it as is and not spend all this money for something that doesn't work right and brings attention of COPs. I really do want the HIDs and not just because they look good, but because I really have a bad vision. So help me here to make a decision. Should I get the 5000K HID kit and stick it in my halogen housings or NOT?

look man get them. get the best quality u can. install everything right. then just lower your beams a lil and test for yourself. have someone drive your car towards you while you drive their car. and also look at the stop signs. if the beam below the stop sign from a distance you aint blinding. now if from a distance u light up the whole sign then they too high. u lower up to where u want. obviously the lower u wont be blinding no more. and yes hids are meant to give better visibility at night ofcourse when used properly. and c'mon they look nice at night especially how they light up the road in front of u. so get them and lower your beams. have fun with them. lets us what u decided and how it looks. post pics. i shall be posting pics of mine this weekend along weith the led interior and led license plate
installed my 8000k kit today took awhile but it was my first time.also i was wondering how many people actually changed their housing after putting hids on ? seems a bit blinding to me but i guess i could live with it.

Best way to get caught: Use some kit above 6000k. If you have a 4300, 5000, 5500, 6000k kit in there, you probably won't get bugged. Add anything above that, and THAT'S how you'll get caught. HID kit installers get a break with the Altima since HID's are available on the vehicle, and any cop that knows that will probably be less inclined to ask questions, again using only that range of kelvin temp.

Could you let us know what this costs should we be interested in a retrofit?
Many say yes, some say no. I will give you the side of those that say no.
A good beam spread, aim and pattern beats a lot of light with glare and hotspots. I had a HID kit on my Legacy and a week later pulled it out because I disliked it. And, no offense, but this kit was installed on one of the best halogen projectors out there and it still didn't cut it. I had a LOT of light right in front of the car but poor visibility to the sides and far ahead.
Propper optics will always win out. Realistically speaking I read not long ago a scientific study to see HIDs vs halogen. The difference in reaction time was below 20%, I can't remember the exact figure.
My personal opinion is get some top of the line, brightest in terms of lumens halogens and be happy. And no, I'm not talking about ricey, shitty, overwattage bulbs like Nokya, Polarg and PIAA. Get the real deal, such as Philips, OSRAM or Narva.

i second that....dont with the ricey crap of 8k 10k 12k...these is all bull. want hids stay with close to OEM 4300k-5000k. and yes use only good brands...philips osram hella valeo..thats it. i have 4300k phillips bulbs rebased to h11... connected to gen3 hella ballast... simply the best OEM setup. i will post pics of color output this weekend. you shall see how good the color looks when you use OEM bulbs. (4300k) and yes i lowered the headlights just a lil bit and no more blinding oncoming traffic

well look i already have the ballast/bulbs/wires so thats saves me money. keep in mind if you going to get a professional retrofit you gotta use philips 85122 d2s bulbs with good quality hella/bosch/osram ballast.
now heres the price breakdown im looking at i can go with s2000 projectors ($250) or tsx($150) labor+shroud work+shipping $250-$350 in the end you got true hid OEM experience and you didnt have to pay 35k+ on the car :-)
i had 8000k on my 3rd gen and 2 me it was fine good light output and the blue wasnt that bad as everyone on here says it is...i thinking of doing the same with this 1

Well, I am just posting this as an update...its been pissing rain here ever since I got my tints done...So the car is dirty as crap and too dark to take any pics...Hopefully, its supposed to stop raining tomorrow, I'll see if I can get the car washed and finally get some pics posted.
On another note, I've noticed some people saying that once you go into the 7000k 8000k range, you are just asking for a ticket.
Well that might be true, but keep in mind that 6000k HIDs are the brightest ones you can get. 6000k is a pure white light output (closest similarity to the sun's output of light) 7, 8000k and higher lights simply change the hue of the outputted light. Thats why they begin to look blue. Once you get in the 11-12000k range, the glow of the blubs will begin to look red. However, they will not be as bright as 6000k bulbs.
The 6000k HIDs are considered the median point in the light spectrum and anything higher will have a lower lumen output.
