on my 2.5s the best i did was 500 miles from full to empty. when i filled up...it took about 18-19 gallons. currently averaging 450-480. this is with more highway than street...oh and a lot of traffic...miami traffic sucks. also i get mpg on it than when my wife drives it. i dont drive my altima 2 work everyday. my wife and i switch every 2 days or so. she drives 15 miles 1 way to work and me 35 miles 1 way to work. so i sometimes prefer to take her 05 toyoto corolla which easy take 32-35 mpg
I just came back from TN and I got 421 miles on my tank (15.46 gallons at fillup) which averages 27mpg. I was pretty impressed with this because I have a 3.5 MT and I'm running 87 octane. About 300 miles of that was all highwy with about half of that going through the peaks and valleys of the northern TN and sourthern KY mountain ranges. The last 120 or so miles were mixed (65% city/35% hwy) driving, and my low fuel light never kicked on.
I've been driving very differently than usual. I've been coasting downhill, coasting to stops at red lights, and if possible, I try not to rev past 2000 rpms while accellerating (if I'm in a bit of a hurry, I'll raise the ceiling to 3000 rpm). I also use cruise control when possible.
On this week's tank of gas, I got a mixed average of 24mpg. That's about 75% city driving, including the hour I spent teaching my wife how to drive stick!
Having a 270HP engine and getting 24-27 mpg with mixed city/hwy driving makes me quite happy. When I first got this car, I usually had to fill up 3 times every 2 weeks (about once every 4.5 days), and now I manage to 7-8 days between fillups and I'm still driving the same ammount of miles per week.
Someone in here posted that driving without the Traction control on helps gain a mpg or two. I may try that on dry days to see if there's an improvement.

The traction control doesn't do anything at all until you get some wheelspin. If you are trying to save fuel, I would think that you would NOT get any wheelspin. (even with the crappy OEM tires) Unless maybe on a rainy day, like you mention.
The 2.5 can get 600+ easy. Just keep it under 60 on the freeway and fill up when you're almost empty. That should be well past 600 miles. It's called math.

do people look at you funny when you're driving under 60 on a freeway? in michigan speed limit is 70 and if you're not doing 75 you'll cause a congestion.

yeah let me try going 60 here in miami. i will get many high beams, many fingers, many f's...seriously i tell my wife if people in this country started to driver slower we wouldnt have such a gas crisis. everyday i still see idiots driving like if they own a gas station.
i wishhhh. My all time best was around 460. I cant drive below 70 mph on the highway though, and my average is usually about 75 . I would slow down to 50, but i'm afraid a bicyclist might blow his horn at me and pass me up.

I didn't think that the A/C would make that much difference, since I heard that the compressor ran most of the time to dehumidify. Am I wrong??? But the last two days with mid '90s for my 2008 SE V6 has gone down from 22+ to 19+/MPG. And I'm using cruise whenever I can and driving like an old lady. The best I got before the heat wave was 22/MPG for a tank around town and 25 with some highway driving.
As far as getting a decent measurement, the temperature of the fuel, sometimes dependent on the time of your fillup, may effect the number of gals you can put into a tank for a fill. The topoff sensitivity of the nozzle may affect fillup. The lower the octane rating the more fuel, you will burn to achieve the same miles. Does that make sense?
I'm getting tired of being a cruise control pilot, watching the mpg rating every other moment I'm driving. I think I'll just have fun and die a little more poor.
I-5 from Washington down to Northern California isn't your typical freeway. It's only congested in Seattle (most of the time) Tacoma and Portland during rush hours only. Weekend driving, doing 55-59 in the right hand lane gets you a pretty safe and uneventful drive. BTW- Growing up in South Florida, I rode my bicycle on I-95 before it opened and became a free for all combat zone!!

The Oil industry analyst on The Today show this morning said "We need to cut consumption by 20% to drive the price of oil down". If everyone drove under 60, guess what the savings would be? Instantly?
If you carpool? 50% savings. Instantly.
Personally, I'm sick of Big Oil and OPEC, wars and the economy being in a shit hole (because of fuel prices).
WTF is everyone in such a hurry about? Missing "American Gladiators"?

i have never made to 600 miles because i'm 95% city driving.... but just curious how much have you guy paid for your most expensive fill up????
mine was last night for $71.00 with a 1/4 tank before i started pumping the screen just started flashing ---
mine was $80.70. it was way under 1/4 tank and it took in 18.95 gallons. i had just come back from a little trip and didnt bother to fill it up before that. god i hate seeing $80+ at a damn gas station.

My best was 420 miles on a tank, but this discussion about miles per tank and max fill-up is a bit meaningless. The Altima has one of the largest tanks in its class (20.0 gallons). Obviously, the max fill-up is... 20.0 gallons (x $/gallon at your station). The main advantage of a large tank is less visits to the gas station.
