TPMS warning check connector FOUND ... pics to follow...

For everyone that has ever had a TPMS warning light pop up on the dashboard, I am going to post pictures of where the warning light check connector is located. I had to pull the wiring diagram from the FSM, but finally located it and tested it out and it works very well.

I had some error codes and don't quite understand the flash pattern yet, but rather than pulling the instructions from the FSM (which I am going to do promptly), I elected to post this first.

Can we sticky this somewhere once I upload some pics and the codes??

Trav

This is where the connector is found. Pull the instrument panel fuse cover off above the hood release. Get ready to crawl around - might as well put the steering wheel all the way up and the driver's seat all the way back to give yourself some room. Hope you're not arthritic.

Anyhow - looking up from the floorboard of the car, the wire harness that is directly above the connector that plugs into the iKey slot, there is a small white connector with one white wire leading to it. It is not connected to anything and is taped into the wiring harness. My picture shows about 1" of the wire exposed from the wiring harness ... I had to pull that out. There was NONE of the wire exposed under the electrical tape.

Use a paper clip and twist/push it into the hole on the side that the wire feeds into. Note - feed this into the smaller hole. It won't make contact in the larger one that you can see the metal inside of. The smalle one is what you want.

Ground it to the metal brace directly above the hood release. You can ground it to anything that is actually grounded ... and the bracked in this picture IS grounded and works.

Turn ignition ON, don't start the engine. Hold the paper clip on the bracket to ground it. Hold it there. The TPMS light will light up for 5 seconds, go off for 5 seconds, then start flashing a 2-digit code. The longer flashes are the first digit, the shorter flashes are the second digit.

To stop the diagnostic, just release the paper clip from ground. It will continue to flash out codes for about 10 seconds and then it will stop. The FSM says that simply turning the ignition OFF will erase the codes, however mine have not erased by doing that. A glitch in the software, I suppose, but whatever.

Mine has retained a code 17 and 18 (low pressure on the front right and left tires) from months ago when I went drag racing and lowered my pressures in the front.

Anyhow - I'll post up codes later.

Late,
Trav

Check it again - I just fixed it to actually display images in the thread (using the IMG tag).

cool, but 1 question though...so does this reset the TPMS or completely disables it?

Has anyone tried to register the sensor IDs from a different set of TPMS sensors that were installed on another set of rims, by grounding the Tire pressure warning check connector?

I don't think anyone has tried that, but I can guarentee that this does NOT work. The ONLY thing this does is to allow you to view error codes and (supposedly) erase error codes. The erasure part doesn't work.

This does NOT disable the TPMS system. That is impossible to disable it completely, except for some kind of malfunction.

This ONLY reads and erases error codes.

Depends on wether or not there is a TPMS module, or is it built into the BCM? If it is a separate module, I'm sure it can be deactivated, simply by unplugging it.

Or, one could just remove the gauge cluster, take off the back cover (bake) and remove the bulb.

The reason I am inquiring about being able to perform the sensor ID is because of the Schrader-Bridgeport Technical Bulletin for Nissan MY05-06 (see link).

http://www.carquest.com/common/downl...eDOP11-103.pdf

I reviewed the FSM for both the 06 Murano and 350Z and there is no indication that you can adjust the 4 tires to all have a different pressure (as indicated in the FSM for ID Registration without activation tool) then ground the Tire pressure warning check connector 5 times in 10 seconds, then drive the vehicle in order to ID each Sensor. I do not think that Nissan would want you to know this, because if it works you do not need to go to the dealer and connect to Consult-II or III to ID the sensors. However, I would only try this on a set of new sensors. You would not want to lose your current sensor IDs.

I'm not real certain what you're talking about. The older Nissans DO have a method to connect/disconnect the TPMS module 5 or 6 times to allow the TPMS system to re-learn the wheel positions. The 07+ Altima REQUIRES that you use the Consult II/III to perform this function.

The self-diagnosis on the Altima is ONLY to read and erase stored error codes related to the TPMS. You can do absolutely nothing as far as re-learning the wheel positions or sensor ID's without a Consult.

Not sure if this answers your questions or not, but the FSM DOES mention inflating the tires to different pressures to let the BCM/TPMS learn the wheel positions for each sensor. But again, this requires a Consult. Not something you can do without any special tools.

I tried interrupting the ground connection 5 times to see if this would work ... it does not. The TPMS light just continues flashing out error codes (for approx. 10 seconds if ground is disconnected). If the TPMS diagnostic isn't activated, then it just does nothing.

Trav

okay, the post is really good. it's a real handy DIYS way to reset the TPMS. And the tool, well it's good too. 20 bucks, not a heavy price.

However there's one thing i don't understand. maybe im wrong here. the post (or the tool) actually what it does? is it like just resetting? (like killing the doctor instead of having medicine?). for example let's say if you get low pressure and get the warning - solution is to pressure the tires properly and run for a while. not resetting right? thats what i wanna know ... is this procedure going to relearn the sensors or something.

maybe im retarded man ....

(eg: i got a new TPMS sensor replaced under warranty. after a week got the warning and i knew my pressure is okay. so i went back to dealer. they told me like when they check the new sensor was not captured by the system ... whatever. not all fine. so a simple reset is not a solution for that situation right ?)

Replacing TPMS sensor REQUIRES a visit to the dealership for activation. Learning tire positions - same thing.

The ONLY thing the TPMS diagnostic does is allow you to discover error codes.

Supposedly, you can also delete error codes by simply turning the ignition off after it has finished spitting codes out at you. HOWEVER, mine won't delete. The codes are retained.

So, in summary, you can view error codes if the TPMS warning light comes on. This will tell you what is wrong. The diagnostic serves no other function other than finding the problem. Fixing usually means a visit to the dealer.
