I agree with you, the badge bothers me too.
But to be fair, it's just the badge. The car is actually a Holden Commodore.
Holden/Vauxhall/Opel are all GM subsidiaries, so same parent companies. The car itself is designed and built by Holden, except for the drivetrain.

The Holden Commodore, also known as the Commonwhore, kinda has a reputation of being a redneck car in Australia, I have no idea why. That's what a resident told me at least.

Per the Nissan website, the engine is a "DE", not an "HR".
Yes but that PDF compares the HR to the 3rd generation VQ engine.

My guess is that Nissan actually knows their own engines. It is NOT necessary for someone to "take apart" an RWD Z engine, or the Alti/Maxi engine. The info is easily available to anyone smart enough to do a search. The "new" engine was described in an ariticle in Nissan Performance Magazine. The HR engine has been described in a fair amount of detail by Nissan. You (stubbornly) stated that "just doesn't make sense for Nissan to waste money making two different VQ's ", and I pointed out that there were already more than one VQ. But you missed the point. You can get your parents to take you to a Nissan dealer, and maybe they will show you the info in the parts manual. Or maybe you can get someone to help you do an internet search. Here's a clue:http://www.nissan-global.com/EN/DOCU...Engine_Eng.pdf
I was looking at that PDF and it was interesting. I saw the power curves on both engines. Not sure if they are comparing it to the last generation VQ35DE or this generation VQ35DE. The power shows it falls after 6300 RPM very rapidly. I am sorry to say that my power stayed at peak from 6000 RPM to 6800 RPM. I was making a full 242 WHP across that whole time and the funny thing is, my a/f ratio was getting richer and richer.

So the power curve is INCORRECT if its the power curve of the 4th GEN VQ35DE.

^Yes if technosquare got off their asses and tuned our ECU we'd probably see a huge gain, I'm pretty sure Nissan held the power back of the motor in the Altimas for good reason. Fuel-cutoff on the 4th gen is 6800 - 6900 RPM's and if power doesn't drop off, i'm positive this motor can take a 7k+ rev.

well, okay here's another argument... it's a pontiac so it's a POS regardless of which of the GM engines they put in it......

And if the LS engine is that big of a deal in that car, then why isn't it that much faster than my family sedan?

I'm not saying it's not a good looking car..... probably is pretty nice in it's own way even.... but it's still a pontiac... It still has only a subtle badge separating it from a Saturn.....

How's that for another argument?

Can you read? See the first post on this page. Technically it's not a Pontiac, but a Holden. Either way, you're a hater it seems, or rather, a badge snob/elitist?

And don't be fooled by the numbers you see Motor Trend pulling, they've been known to be way conservative on some pulls/posts. It ain't that much quicker per that one article due to the weight ratio. You obviously seemed to have missed that one tidbit.
Wait for them to hit the track with a decent driver, I'm sure it'll become much clearer then ...

well of course it's because of the weight of the vehicle.... but it's still not much faster than my V6, which kind of makes it seem silly to buy a V8 because it's so much more powerful only to find out it's marginally faster than the Nissan V6.

Am I an elitist? YES. Especially when I am spending my money. Which is why the thought of spending my hard-earned money on a pontiac gives me the shivers..... But, hey, to each his own....

I ask you this: If you had bought a car say 4 years ago, which would you rather have now? A 2004 Altima or a 2004 Grand Prix? or even a Bonneville?

You do realize the G8 is more of an import car than any North American Nissan, right?
And like I said, don't take the Motor Trend numbers as the gospel, I bet you that G8 is a lot faster than what's on that paper.
