So........ who still thinks the 4th GEN altima's arent using a detuned HR? hmm?[/QUOTE]

It is not very hard to find the difference between the "DE" engine, used in the Altima, and the "HR" engine. Here is one summary:
"Start with a completely redesigned cylinder block with significantly improved rigidity, increase the redline to 7500 rpm, increase fuel efficiency by 10%, throw in continuously variable valve timing control (CVTC) on the intake side and electromagnetic valve timing control (e-VTC) on the exhaust side, decrease friction through application of the world's first hydrogen-free, diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating of internals, add super-ignition iridium spark plugs, and fast light-off O2 sensor control... "
So, since the Altima has different block, does that make it a "detuned HR". Don't think so. The HR has different connecting rods, a different intake system that would not fit on the Altima engine, and a lot of other changes.

+1 for the G8.
I like my Altima but if I had an extra $10k and gas wasn't rediculous I would have been all over the G8. It is even getting favorable reviews going up against BMW 5-series and the magazines love BMWs. (except for I-drive).

The only thing the two cars have in common is that they are, dimensionally, upper mid-sized sedans.

Even higher compression on this VQ? It seems like Nissan's last resort to squeeze out a few extra HP from this engine.

Nissan brought out an '09 to our regional Maxus event last week for us to play with. The only thing I truly tolerated/liked about the car was the interior.
Sure, the G8 screams 'American quality' on the inside, but at least the body was well-designed.

Yeah I don't understand this either, one is a fun, fast RWD sedan, and the other is a soft, somewhat fast FWD sedan .

It's a rebadged Holden Commodore underneath...For those who know...It is what it is...

RWD L76 FTMFW...Rumors suggest a future LS3 with a 6MT...

EDIT: Scratch that...No rumor

EDIT II: Motion to move to OT...

Tell me again why a Holden isn't just a re-badged Pontiac sold in Austraila.... I don't hear too many people extolling the virtues of Austrailian automotive reliability.... Maybe I'm sheltered.....

Because it was a Holden before it was a Pontiac....

I am not contesting this statement...But I am sure that you haven't heard anything because the number of vehicles that have come here fom Australia is pretty limited... The last Goat comes to mind...and I think I read somewhere that the new Camaro has roots down under...

All that being said...Even with the uncertainty, the reviews have been favorable, and (if I could afford big horse V8 gas mileage), I would take a G8 GT any day of the week over a new Maxi-pad.

The G8 pulled off a 14.1@100 MPH, so if i raced one of those, it would be a drivers race. My "270BHP" VS 361 BHP

Okay so it's not much faster than the Alti, if any, but it costs more, uses more fuel, and is an Australian car badged as a Pontiac which may or may not be better (only thing we really know is it's different).....

So what am I missing???? Why is there such a following around this car? I know, I know... finally an "american" V8..... problem is, when pressed that it's a Pontiac, the fans quickly point out that it is actually a Holden.... built and designed in Australia.....

By all accounts it's just a slower GTO with 2 extra doors and a lower MPG.... which is funny since they don't even sell the GTO in America anymore because of sluggish sales.....

So what am I missing?????? Why the mystique?????
