For the very first oil change I used BOSCH 3300 oil filter. I have been using BOSCH filters since then. After the first one I saw that both Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts listed BOSCH 3323 as the right filter for my 07 Altima 2.5s. 3323 is less in diameter than 3300, but longer. Once my filter was covered with oil as it was leaking from the seal area. All other filters were fine until the last one. It did the same thing. My car has 37K. I change oil every 5k. I use this 3323 for my friends 07 civic and it never leaks.
Is this leak because I am using 3323 which is little less in diameter than 3300 ? Should I just complain to BOSCH or should I just discontinue using BOSCH ? Anyone had this experience?
Thanks for your replies guys. Here is what I found:
1- My first oil change: Original Nissan filter was the same as BOSCH 3300
2- Used 3300 once after that
3- Web sites of Auto Zone and PartsAmerica listed the 3323 as the right size
4- I switched to 3323. Only 2 of the 3323 leaked out of 6
I noticed that the rubber seal on top of the filter is different in different filters. Some are thicker than others. That could be blamed. I loved BOSCH stuff. 3323 supposed to have FILTECH technology. Well! I'm gonna see how my next 5k goes with the current 3323 I have on.
I've used the 3323 Bosch with no issues. I switch intermittently between the Bosch and Pure One (14610).

That would be two too many for me. I've never had an oil filter leak and if I did I wouldn't use the same size again.
Maybe it doesn't need to be said, but you did make sure the old gasket came off with the old filter, right? If the old gasket sticks and a new filter is put on overtop, it will leak like a sieve. I've been using Bosch filters in most of my vehicles for close to 10 years with a zero failure rate.

Yes...I always check that the old gasket is not left by accident. Once this happened and oil started splashing everywhere.
I called BOSCH and one of the rep called me back in 3 minutes. I just wanted to inform him about what happened. Reason:
-They can keep this as a record
-If they get another info like this it will help them to look into the matter and correct the problem. This way the product can maintain consistency.
He said that this is the first time they heard of this in their product management office. However, he'll still inform his product mng. My only purpose of this was to keep this documented. Working in clinical trial taught me how records of events help track down any problem.
