Woo Hoo!! Dang Nabbit. And Aww Crap, all in one 24 hour period...

Well, Last night was the Woo Hoo part.

I took delivery of my '07 Altima 2.5 S, with the 6 spd manual, in the wonderful Majestic Blue, with the Charcoal interior. For whatever reason, I was under the impression that the car had the Frost interior, but I'm not complaining.

I drove it straight from the dealer to my sister's place, then back home last night.

Then this morning I drove it to work.

Then I drove it from work with my boss and a coworker over to a bagel shop to pick up breakfast for the group. Then back to the office.

Then for lunch, I zipped on back to my house to pick up something I left at home, and then it happened:

The SES light came on.
Just great. 90 miles. Must have set a new record or something.

Then when I get home, I pull out the window sticker that came with the car, and find out my car was built in Canton.

Ooh, just fabulous.

Does anyone know the procedure to reset the SES light, so that I can find out if it's just something temporary after a bit more driving, or if it's something that needs to go back to the dealership for (already)?

BC.

Where can I find where it's built? I looked on the door but saw the tire sticker and Gross Vehicle Weight sticker, but nothing else.

If you have the original sticker that goes in the window of the car that tells you the EPA mileage of the car, if you look just to the right of the highway mpg figure, you will see the Dealer Name that the vehicle was originally built for, the Transport Method, and the Final Assembly Point.

On mine, it says Canton.

The other way to do it is by reading the VIN.

Here's how to read your VIN in regards to the '07 Nissan Altima:

The First 3 digits indicate the manufacturer of the car:
1N4 = Nissan

The next 5 digits indicates the model of vehicle:
AL21E = 2.5L 4 cyl engine
BL21E = 3.5L 6 cyl engine

The next digit is a check digit:
X - 6 - 3 are the most common, but can be almost anything.

The next digit is the model year:
7 = 2007

The next digit is the code for the Assembly Plant:
N = Canton
C = Smyrna

The last 6 digits are your vehicle's ID number

So a 2.5 that was built in Canton would have this VIN
1N4AL21EX7N404816

A 3.5 that was built in Canton would have this VIN:
1N4BL21E27N402725

A 2.5 that was built in Smyrna would have this VIN:
1N4AL21EX7C119075

And a 3.5 that was built in Smyrnawould have this VIN:
1N4BL21E57C117092

All these cars can be found in the dealerships near me, so these are legitamite VIN's.

No seriously, in most states the law only allows to return the car for your money back within three days.

Please, save yourself the troubles, you can find another new car, even another Altima if that is what you really want, but save the and time going to dealerships and TAKE IT BACK!!!!

Otherwise you will be

The choice is yours. Good luck!

When I went on my initial test drives before I bought mine, I test drove a 2.5SL with Technology package. The trim piece above the cassette palyer (sim. wood) where the Ipod jack is, was loose! I pointed it out to the salesman who kept trying to pop it back in, saying nothing was wrong. That was a clue that the entire Fr...ng car was poorly assembled. When I looked at the Maxima and Alti3.5SL, no such thing, the cars felt like they were made by a different manufacturer. All solid. The engine on the 2.5 at cold start was loud, another clue that I wasn't going to like the car in the long run.

I got the Alti 3.5SL and 350 miles later, no issues. Just checked and its made in Smyrna. Hard to believe but can Canton be that scr...d up!!!!

Nissan must know by now, I wonder what theyre doing.

I would return the car, no questions asked. Don't bother with trying to fix it.

That's the scary thing about this car:
Everything is in it's place, bolted in tight, and looks really well assembled.
No squeaks, rattles, or addly behaving doors anywhere.

Does anyone know if the code retrieval procedure on the older gen Altima will work on ours, too?

I think you guys are jumping way too far too soon. The gas cap can be loose causing the light to go on. I'd chill and wait until he reports back what the ses light was on for.

BC: Get it back to the dealer and let them figure it out. You WILL need this record in case its a "lemon". It could be anything, a loose gas cap etc.

These cars warn about anything. This is the first car that told me I had the hand brake on when I started driving. Its great but the SES light is not worth checking into yourself. The dealer and Nissan themselves aren't going to like you getting into the car with 30 miles on it.
