Still waiting to hear back from the guy who has done it. I will ask around some more though. Because it seems like something that would be fairly straightforward.
The most frustrating part of this is that disabling navigation system functions while moving isn't a legal requirement; it's only the internal policy of some car manufacturers. Some. Many other automakers provide full access while underway. A lot of hapless car buyers don't figure it our until they sign the papers and get the car home.
Don't worry I think the new Acura TSX started disabling all kinds of features in the car while you are moving and also got rid of the touch screen i think.
Team,
I found three great websites for “Navigation Hacks”, “Security bypass”, “Video while driving”, “VSS bypass” and “Enter Navigation addresses while moving”

Look for IN-1 (Infinity One) Nissan and Infiniti use the same Nav computers)

INFINITI/NISSAN vehicles have several different types of screens in their cars, but they all share the same navigation computer. We provide 2 types of interface choices for all your Infiniti/Nissan needs.
1) Your first choice and least expensive choice is our universal mod. This involves cutting 4 wires at the navigation unit or behind the LCD screen.
2) Your 2nd choice and a little more expensive is to use our factory OEM Infiniti/Nissan connectors, which makes the unit 100% plug and play. Plug and play solutions are available for almost all Infiniti/Nissan vehicles, part number IN-1

I wonder what kind of res the nav LCD has...I was thinking about replacing the whole nav with a car computer, but if i could swipe out the existing LCD or if its high enough to support a computer one...
OK FoxSkulk...I really don't think you understand what we are dealing with here. TV and Nav 2 go does not have an adaptor compatible with our Nav unit and as far as I know...nobody does right now because it is a totally different unit from all other Nissan/Infinity vehicles. Normally every other car has a 2 piece unit but the Altima is a different unit and its all self-contained which causes a lot of problems to tap into. See any mod that we do to this unit will require it to be opened up since the components are all self-contained into it. I've done a lot of research into it with no luck and its soo bad that Nissanipod cannot even tap into it to make an ipod adaptor for our cars.
I am planing to make this modification in some manner. I am trying to figure out if there is a less invasive method for doing this. What i was thinking was making a passthrough harness except for the 1 wire that the switch is installed. Finding a standard harness that you would use for installing an aftermarket stereo is easy, but I can't seem to find the other end (one like the stereo). Has anyone explored a harness like this? Could we find this plug or is it specific to only the back of the stereo?
so im a little confused by step 12. i dont see the severed wire that is mentioned. i get that the wire goes into the number 8 hole so i can prob find it on my own i just would like to get some clarification before i try this
Just wanted to say thank you very much to gtcompscientist. I just did it and worked perfectly. I did have the airbag light problem but found a post on how to reset it. Once again thank you very much GTcompscientist.
To anyone who needs to reset your airbag light here is the info that worked for me
push the ignition from OFF to ON
the air bag warning light will appear for about 7 seconds and turns off.
then push igniition switch OFF immediately.
after ignition switch is turned OFF, wait for about 6 seconds.
after you REPEAT THE PROCEDURE 3 TIMES, push the ignition switch ON, this time the ABS warning light has been reset.
step on the brake and push the button to start the car. turn the ignition off and start the car. Hope this will help. I did this procedure to my car and it works...
