So, tonight on the way home I got on it a little and took a onramp at some decent speed and ran it up to about 100. As I pulled back into my subdivision I downshifted to 2'nd, turned, and just lightly pushed the gas pedal. As the revs slowly climbed between 2k-3.5k rpm I could hear some really loud lifter noise/knocking coming from the engine.
I broke it in right, use 93 octane, and I've been racing and driving manuals for a long time. Plus, I checked the oil level and that seems to be fine.
I wanted to know if anyone else has the same noises, or do I really have a problem here.

I have a CVT, and not the manual, but I have been playing with it for a while, and I have yet to hear any noises like that. I have had it up over 100 several times and never had this.
EDIT: PS - Your sig link is broken, and I don't know which "Ryan" you are on the sponsored pages.
I have the same issue. I just wrote it up as louder than normal lifters. It seems to happen when slowly climbing in RPMs and not shifting right away. When I push, I don't hear it, I only hear it in these lower RPMs.
yup, that's what happens...exactly. I hear it in higher rpms, but you have to be light with the throttle. Well, it doesn't seem to be a problem with just my car, which makes me feel a little better.
I think I am going to take it into the dealer tomorrow or Friday and see what they say.
Thanks for the responses!
I'll look at the weblink in my sig. That was put there back in '05. I should be the one with the red civic on the podium.
i hear injector ticks on start up, but thats pretty much it. when im driving and get to higher rpms and let it coast down, I hear a whining noise like a turbine slowing down. but nothing that seems out of the ordinary.

Stopped by the dealer on the way home and had the service advisor and the tech drive and look at the car. They confirmed that there is a possible issue, and I am dropping it off tomorrow to let them have it for friday and saturday.
Seems like this is only happening on Manual transmissions. Also, whoever is having issues, please post your last 7 of your VIN.. IE N123456 so we can see if there is a problem with just a batch of cars, if there even is a problem..
So, today, the Nissan dealer called me and said they spoke with their regional rep about my engine issue. The rep said that I should get whatever will fix the problem. The service advisor said that the tech was just going to order a new motor for it!?
So, with 2k miles on my car it needs a new engine. I am willing to bet my life that some tart who drives cars for the dealership didn't know there was a 6'th gear and drove it for the first 300 miles on the highway at 4,500rpm.
So, now for the fun part!... Since the engine is out
I need to get some part numbers from the 350Z/Altima/Maxima for cams. I want to know if the 2007 cam part numbers match the '06 or any variant. Also, if I can fit some headers on it, they will go on.
Only car I have ever owned with a problem like this. Wierd.
Anybody else have any ideas? Clutch/Flywheel....I mean, since the engine is out!
A word to the wise from a 3rd gen. owner. Don't let them put a rebuilt engine in your car. That was their idea of a fix for all the poor guys who bought the flawed '06s with the 4 cylinder engines with bad rings. Also, I don't think you'll be able to put headers on it, even if you do find a set that'll fit. The O2 sensors on '05s and '06s, and I assume '07s are wideband and can't be cheated by putting in a spacer or O2 simulator to fake out the ecu. You'll be running around with an SES light all the time and if your state does smog testing, you'll never pass. We can't get them for our '05s or '06s either because of the O2 sensor issue. Maybe somebody will invent a simulator to replace the wideband sensors, but not yet. One more time, though, please check and double check the "new" engine they put in your car, if it is in need of replacement. Nissan was screwing the '06 2.5 owners every way they could on that fiasco. The guys had a brand new car afterward with a rebuilt motor. If that should be what they want to do to you, demand a brand new replacement car. That's what you paid for and that's what you should get! (BTW a Nissan rebuilt engine has a tag on it that states the engine is a rebuilt).
