After the rain-storm in NYC today, I went for a drive in the evening and as soon as I started driving, my roof started leaking from the edges around the front center reading lights. :'(
Thankfully it didn't leak overnight so there wasn't a mess inside the car. I taped a lot of paper towels to that area for now and will be going to my Dealership tomorrow after work.
So much for a brand-new car that was built in Smyra!
Yes, I do have a Sunroof and it wasn't left opened. LoL
Kinda upsetting. But hopefully the dealership will take care of it. They better not give me any nonsense!!!
I somewhat had the same problem. When I take the car through a high pressure car wash I noticed that if I look up through the sunroof glass I actually felt a subtle mist (nothing great, but I suspect any type of water getting in is a very bad thing whether subtle or not). This was hardly detectable, but definitely existed. I took it to the dealer, explained this, and they tried to simulate this in their car wash. They were unable to produce this and sent me on my merry (actually not so merry) way. This obviously was disturbing, but I knew this was a difficult thing to fight. However, I would suspect that traveling 65 mph in a very hard rain might somewhat simulate this, but difficult to summon all of these elements all at once. Anyhow, it is on record and I will once again take it to the car wash and verify that it is still occurring and then possibly take a mechanic to the same car wash and prove it to them.
I hope this works out for you as well, I suspect your case will be easier to prove then mine because the water coming in should be very obvious.
I would suggest finding the leak if you have the time before you go in to the dealership, that way you know where to look when you get it back. Take the pieces out and try to find where the water was coming in from, because it could be as simple as a poor seal around the sunroof, or it could be something MUCH worse.
After looking through the owners manual, it tells you how to set the sunroof so that it opens and closes correctly. It says if not done right that it may leak. Could be that the dealership didn't set the sunroof up right. Looks like it should only take about five minutes to check it out and redo the sunroof settings.
Thanks. I will review the owners manual adjustments as well as removal of pieces for isolation. Frankly, I wanted to stay as far away from water issues and water seal adjustments as much as possible, but I suspect that I can isolate where this is coming from by putting something below the glass to see if I can create any type of moist spot so I can determine where it is coming from. Finding a drip will be very slim, but finding the condensation might be doable. Any suggestions on what to use? I figured that calibrating the sunroof settings would be done after I determined where the leak is coming from. To find the problem, I was initially thinking of something like construction paper that might show a discoloration when it starts to become moist. Fabric will probably not be affective because the mist is hardly detectable and will not soak an area of the cloth.
Put yer cell phone up there they have little indicators inside to tell if they have gone into a toilet...
No seriously look around at some shipping supplies (Uline.com and search for Humidity Indicators ) or "colbalt chloride test strips" (you can buy at indigo.com for $7.20 for a vial of 100), they are actually advertised as "the only practical way to detect the presence of water in hard to reach places"
I have read the calibration routine for the sunroof and find it really complex to follow.. hope I never have to do that.. Oh well at least I won't look as stupid as calibrating the compass on my mirror as I do circles in the local mall parking lot !!
I went to my service center today but they were closing in 45 minutes so they told me to come back tomorrow (or suggested I leave the car ... for tonight ... tomorrow ... and who knows how many more days.)
Told 'em I need to get to and from work and asked for a loaner ... and the guy at the service desk said "We don't give loaners." Soo I called my dealership and they said to drop the car off tomorrow and they'll give me a rental car from Enterprise. Lets seee what happens. I'll keep yah guys updated!
